About the Melbourne International Research Scholarship
The Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) was established by the University of Melbourne to support both domestic and international students engaged in research degrees who demonstrate outstanding academic merit.
Since 2016, the Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) has been fully integrated into the university’s comprehensive research scholarship program.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Melbourne International Research Scholarship, applicants must:

Have applied for and meet the admission requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne,
or -
Be currently enrolled in a research program at the University.
Selection Criteria
Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit. Eligible candidates are assessed and ranked according to:

Academic performance in their most recent degree

Research potential in their chosen field
Additional factors that may be considered include:

Relevant professional experience

Peer-reviewed publications

Specialist medical qualifications

Original creative work, such as musical composition
Number of Scholarships Awarded
Approximately 600 scholarships are awarded annually by the University of Melbourne.

How to Apply
New Applicants
If you are a new applicant who has submitted an application for a graduate research degree before the deadline, you will be automatically considered for the scholarship.
Deferred Offer Holders
If you have previously accepted an offer but deferred your start date and wish to be reconsidered, you must resubmit the online application form by October 31 to be eligible for scholarship consideration in the following year.
Currently Enrolled Students
If you are currently enrolled in a graduate research program and wish to apply for a scholarship, you must also submit the online application form before October 31.
You will receive confirmation within seven days that a scholarship application has been added to your student record.
