United Bank for Africa (UBA Cameroon) is recruiting 02 Legal Officer for its activities.

Job Purpose:

The Legal Officer will be responsible for efficiently handling all complaints received within the unit. This role involves monitoring ongoing litigation, overseeing the legal watch on all related files, and ensuring the legal security of contracts and guarantees on behalf of the bank. Key objectives include:

  • Processing and managing all complaints.
  • Conducting legal monitoring over litigation, collection, and other judicial matters.
  • Reviewing contracts and managing the formalization of guarantees.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Process Legal Documents: Handle seizures and Notices to ATD (Avis à Tiers Détenteur), including documentation from judicial authorities and police requisitions.
  • File Management: Maintain and organize all unit files to ensure easy access and retrieval.
  • Legal Advisory: Provide legal guidance to colleagues on various requests.
  • Litigation Management: Assist in managing litigation files involving the bank.
  • Guarantee Execution: Oversee the execution of bank guarantees.
  • Liaison Activities: Collaborate with law firms and institutions for claim collections and litigation matters.
  • Statistics Preparation: Compile annual statistics on the bank’s collection portfolio.
  • Legal Liquidation Management: Oversee end-to-end management of legal liquidation files (estates and others).
  • Dashboard Updates: Regularly update the dashboard for pre-litigation and litigation files.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Maintain constant communication with other bank departments.
  • Reporting Responsibilities: Prepare reports for regulatory bodies.
  • Additional Tasks: Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of the Legal Unit or Executive Management.

Qualifications Required:

  • Educational Background: Minimum of Bac + 3 in Private Law or Business Law.

Language Proficiency:

  • Proficiency in both French and English is essential.
  • Being bilingual is a significant advantage.

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a banking institution or law firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of banking regulations and OHADA Law (securities, recovery, and commercial law).
