About the Opportunity
Maersk is looking for a People Advisor to join its HR team in Douala, Cameroon. This position plays an important role in delivering high-quality HR support to employees and managers while contributing to a consistent and positive employee experience.
As part of the People Advisory function, you will work closely with People Partners, HR colleagues and business leaders to understand workforce needs, address employee-related matters and support the effective implementation of HR processes and initiatives.

About the Role
As a People Advisor, you will serve as a key point of contact for employees and managers on a broad range of HR matters. You will take responsibility for employee requests from initial enquiry through to resolution, ensuring that issues are handled efficiently, accurately and professionally.
Your responsibilities will include a combination of HR administration, employee support, process management, data management and continuous improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely HR support to employees and managers through online, telephone and on-site channels.
- Ensure HR activities are carried out in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, systems and local regulations.
- Manage HR cases throughout their lifecycle, including registration, follow-up, escalation, resolution and closure.
- Advise employees and managers on the use of Workday and other HR self-service platforms.
- Maintain accurate employee information and process HR transactions within relevant systems.
- Prepare, manage and maintain HR documentation in accordance with company and legal requirements.
- Coordinate key employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding and offboarding.
- Support performance management activities and ensure required system updates are completed accurately.
- Assist with HR activities requiring direct interaction with frontline employees, including document collection and physical signatures where applicable.
- Contribute to training, change management and HR transformation initiatives.
- Provide administrative support to Learning & Development and recruitment activities when required.
- Assist with the implementation of local HR and People Partnering projects.
- Provide employees with guidance on global and local HR policies, procedures and HR-related resources.
- Support recruitment activities in locations where additional attention is required due to local circumstances, cultural considerations, assessments or security requirements.
- Ensure proper handling, filing and archiving of employee documentation in line with statutory obligations.
- Support workforce scheduling and manage time and leave-related data for relevant employee populations.
- Review feedback from employees and HR stakeholders and contribute to improvements in the overall employee experience.
- Assist with the collection and return of company assets when employees leave the organization, where required.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is service-oriented, proactive and genuinely interested in creating a positive employee experience. You should be comfortable handling a variety of HR matters, solving problems independently and working collaboratively with colleagues across different locations and cultures.
Required or Preferred Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of professional experience in Human Resources, although candidates with strong customer-service experience and a clear interest in developing an HR career may also be considered.
- A university degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related discipline is an advantage.
- Good understanding of HR principles and practices.
- Solid knowledge of local employment and labour regulations.
- Previous experience using HR information systems is desirable; experience with Workday would be an additional advantage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-management abilities.
- Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to investigate issues, identify appropriate solutions and collaborate effectively with HR stakeholders.
- Ability to manage several priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of tasks.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a geographically distributed or virtual team.
- Strong focus on completing tasks and resolving employee requests within agreed timelines.
- Fluency in both English and French is required.
