Position Summary
- The U.S. Mission in Cameroon is seeking qualified and eligible candidates for the position of Visa Assistant in the Consular Section.
- The selected candidate will support visa processing operations and assist in delivering efficient consular services.

Duties
The Visa Assistant (NIV/IV) is responsible for supporting the delivery of nonimmigrant and immigrant visa services in accordance with the Consular Section’s established procedures and visa adjudication guidelines.
Key responsibilities include data entry, document verification, applicant correspondence, passport processing and manifesting, visa printing, and general administrative support. The role requires a strong customer service orientation, as the Consular Section interacts daily with a diverse range of applicants both in person and through written communication.
The incumbent must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail to ensure all cases meet documentary requirements, while also identifying patterns, discrepancies, or potential concerns and escalating them appropriately. Full cross-training is required to enable the employee to perform a variety of functions based on operational needs, workload fluctuations, and scheduling priorities.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements
All selected candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain either:
- A Security Certificate; or
- A Public Trust clearance (background investigation).
Successful applicants will undergo a background investigation and may be required to complete a pre-employment medical examination. Candidates must be available to assume duties within a reasonable timeframe following receipt of official authorization and required clearances; failure to do so may result in withdrawal of the offer.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Language Studies, Business Management, Human Resources, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
Evaluation Process

Professional Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of experience is required in roles involving the application of laws or regulations, significant public interaction, customer service, and/or problem-solving responsibilities.
Language Proficiency
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Good working knowledge of French (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Language proficiency may be formally tested.
Job Knowledge
A solid understanding of local government institutions, immigration laws and procedures, and relevant cultural and social practices is required.
Skills and Competencies
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook; basic proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact tactfully and professionally with the public.
- Capacity to perform effectively under sustained pressure and strict deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong written communication skills in English and the local language.
- Sound judgment in evaluating documentation, safeguarding sensitive information, and applying regulations appropriately.
