The Integrated Research Education and Support Group (IRES) is a nonprofit organization based in Cameroon, dedicated to promoting research, health education, and strengthening healthcare systems. In alignment with our mission, we are offering a professional internship in accounting and financial management. This opportunity is ideal for recent graduates eager to gain practical experience in the nonprofit and public health sectors.

Internship Overview

As an intern, you will support the finance team in various accounting and financial management tasks. Your contributions will play a role in the effective financial oversight of ongoing programs and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Record transactions and maintain accounting journals
• File and archive financial documentation
• Assist with the preparation of financial reports
• Support budget monitoring and project financial tracking
• Process payments and conduct bank reconciliations
• Monitor advances and ensure timely submission of expense justifications
• Apply donor financial guidelines and accounting procedures
• Participate in internal and external audits

Skills and Competencies to Be Developed

• Proficiency in general and analytical accounting
• Use of financial software (e.g., SAGE, QuickBooks, Excel)
• Understanding NGO financial management frameworks
• Budget preparation and tracking for health-related projects
• Attention to detail in financial data processing and record keeping
• Development of teamwork and professional communication skills
• Experience in financial report drafting and presentation
• Familiarity with donor compliance (Global Fund, PEPFAR, etc.)

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, Auditing, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree will be considered an asset.

Technical Proficiencies:

• Strong command of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools
• Familiarity with accounting software such as SAGE or QuickBooks
• Basic understanding of budgeting and nonprofit financial procedures
• Excellent organizational skills and discretion with financial data

Personal Attributes:

• Keen attention to detail and reliability
• Strong sense of accountability and punctuality
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
• Interest in public health and project finance

Language Requirements:

• Bilingual (French and English), with working proficiency in both languages

Internship Terms

• Duration: Six (6) months, with the possibility of extension based on performance
