1. Summary
Conver Africa is currently recruiting a Corporate & Commercial Lawyer for a Douala-based law firm. This newly-established law firm is focused on building a solid reputation in the corporate and commercial law practice and provides a wide variety of legal and tax advisory services to local and international clients. The firm is also developing a litigation and dispute resolution practice.
2. Duties and Responsibilities:
The principal duties of the Corporate & Commercial Lawyer are summarized as follows, Work with Managing Partner to design the Firm’s strategy and lead its implementation Provide top-notch legal and tax advice to the firm’s clients as need may arise on their various questions of law and business. In this light the Corporate & Commercial Lawyer will work as Associate Manager and manage the team of junior Associates and interns and also work on the orientation, training and discipline of employees
Litigation & Dispute Settlement
- Drafting written submissions in diverse litigation, arbitration and other alternative dispute settlement mechanisms subject matters that may involve the Firm’s clients in Cameroon
- Represent clients effectively in court and Arbitration Tribunals.
- Gather evidence and testimony from a range of witnesses for use in hearings,
- Establish and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with clients
3. Requirements
Applicants must
- Be a member of the Cameroon Bar and possess at least three B) years’ experience working in a law firm or as a free-lance legal services provider following their call to bar.
- Have a Master’s degree in Business Law, Finance Law, Applied Taxation or any specialized field from a Cameroonian University
- Sound knowledge of practical aspects of Business law and practices in Cameroon with a good understanding of the taxation and custom regimes.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills including strong presentation skills
- The firm shall only select applicants who can communicate (read, write and speak) in
- English and French and have experience pleading cases in French.
- Experience in Litigation, Arbitration, mediation and negotiation with a confident and
- measured approach to winning cases.
- Effective use of computer systems for the generation of professional reports, establishing legal Memos, articles, scheduling meetings and designing Power Point
- presentations
- High level of integrity and professional accountability.
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Good organisational skills and capacity to be detail-oriented
