INTERPOL is recruiting to meet the operational needs of its services and is seeking a qualified Criminal Intelligence Officer – Wildlife Crime to join its team in cameroon.
Eligibility and Conditions
Only professional experience that can be substantiated with official employment documentation will be taken into consideration. Shortlisted candidates may be required to present such documentation prior to interview or testing.
This position is funded externally by a third-party donor. While the donor has committed to the funding, the contract may be terminated prior to the official project end date if financial support is discontinued. The position does not imply an expectation of renewal; any potential extension would depend on organizational requirements, performance evaluation, and continued funding in line with INTERPOL’s Staff Manual.
Testing and interviews for this role are expected to occur approximately three weeks after the application deadline. Candidates are advised to ensure their availability during this period should they be shortlisted.
Successful applicants should be prepared to assume their duties within two to three months following receipt of an official offer.
This recruitment process may also serve to establish a reserve list of qualified candidates for similar future vacancies within the Organization.
INTRODUCTION TO THE POSITION
The incumbent will serve as part of INTERPOL’s Environmental Security (ENS) Sub-Directorate. This unit supports global law enforcement efforts to combat wildlife crime—an illicit activity involving the illegal exploitation of wild flora and fauna across the entire supply chain, including poaching, transportation, processing, and trade. Wildlife crime is often intertwined with other forms of serious criminality, such as document fraud, corruption, and money laundering.
The Criminal Intelligence Officer will play a critical role in enhancing international police cooperation to counter transnational wildlife crime. Leveraging INTERPOL’s specialized tools and capabilities, the post holder will be responsible for fostering the exchange of operational intelligence and supporting efforts to identify, disrupt, and dismantle organized criminal networks engaged in this domain.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: Enhance the collection and dissemination of wildlife crime-related intelligence through INTERPOL’s secure global information-sharing systems.
Duty 2:
Provide operational support to member countries, including the initiation of new investigations and the coordination and monitoring of ongoing cases.
Duty 3: Assist in the planning, execution, and follow-up of regional and global operations targeting wildlife crime.
Duty 4: Serve as a liaison for INTERPOL National Central Bureaus, law enforcement agencies, civil society partners (including NGOs and private sector entities) concerning information requests, operational support, and international cooperation on investigations.
Duty 5: Support the organization of law enforcement meetings by coordinating participant selection, drafting agendas, and facilitating sessions as needed.
Duty 6: Represent the Environmental Security Sub-Directorate at internal and external events, including conferences and meetings focused on wildlife crime and related issues.
Duty 7: Design and deliver capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening the global law enforcement response to environmental crimes.
Duty 8: Undertake additional duties as assigned by the supervisor in line with the operational needs of the Sub-Directorate.
