Job advert: Meal Field Assistant – CRS

Catholic Relief Services, a development organization, is seeking a qualified and highly motivated MEAL Field Assistant for the Anglophone Crisis Emergency Response V (ACER V) project. This project is anticipated to be funded for one year by the United States Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance. Under this project, CRS collaborates with the Archdiocese of Bamenda to deliver emergency cash-based food and non-food assistance, along with grants for business, to vulnerable families in Cameroon’s Northwest Region through electronic vouchers. The MEAL Field Assistant will support field activities related to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL), working directly with local partners and community members to further CRS’s mission of serving the poor and vulnerable. The individual’s interpersonal skills within the community contribute to project success and the adoption of best practices, with a continuous focus on enhancing project impact.

Job Location

The role is situated in the Northwest Region of Cameroon.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Supporting MEAL Activities: Assist in MEAL-related program activities on the ground, such as identifying and verifying participants, conducting post-distribution interviews to ensure quality implementation.
  2. Ensuring Accountability and Feedback: Contribute to maintaining accountability to project participants and local stakeholders by actively seeking and responding to feedback through established community feedback mechanisms.
  3. Monitoring Project Activities: Aid in monitoring project activities at the field level as per the MEAL plan, involving data collection, active listening, and observational methods.
  4. Community Mobilization: Assist in community mobilization efforts by communicating and sharing information with project participants at the community level.
  5. Capacity Building Events: Collaborate with the project team to organize MEAL-related capacity-building events for community volunteers.
  6. Supporting Data Collection: Ensure that field enumerators and partners are supported and equipped to consistently and regularly collect and monitor quantitative and qualitative data on MEAL-related activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Educational Background: High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  2. Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of work or volunteer experience in supporting community development and mobilization.
  3. Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is necessary for this role.

Language Requirements

  1. Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. Strong spoken Pidgin skills are highly desired, and conversational French would be an advantage.

Travel Requirements

  1. Travel Expectations: Must be willing and able to travel up to 40% within the Northwest region and occasionally to Yaoundé or other CRS offices.
