Job Description
We are looking for a highly diligent and confident candidate for the role of Translator. The Translator will be responsible for accurately translating documents and emails, as well as attending meetings where live translations/interpretations are required. This position carries great responsibility as the translator will be responsible for translating all documents, letters, and articles from French to English and vice versa. This full-time position will be based in Simbock, Yaoundé.
Key Responsibilities
The following are the key responsibilities for this position:
- Reading given material and conducting research on industry-specific terminology.
- Assisting the graphics team in converting text and audio recordings from one language to another.
- Ensuring that translated content accurately conveys the original meaning and tone.
- Cross-referencing specialized dictionaries and translation tools to ensure the quality of translation.
- Proofreading translated texts for accuracy and transparency.
- Editing content while maintaining its original format, including font and structure.
- Networking with field experts to stay updated on new translation tools and practices.
- Willingness to assist the Communications department in various tasks.
- Using translation software and creating terminologies in different fields.
- Managing time effectively and working under pressure on urgent tasks.
- Attending meetings to provide translation services for discussions.
- Taking regular language fluency assessments to maintain certification.
Key Qualifications and Skills
To be considered for this position, the following qualifications and skills are required:
- A degree in Translation from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- The ability to quickly grasp new concepts, including technical terms.
- A clear writing style with exceptional knowledge of spelling and grammar.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Fluency in both English and French.
- IT skills.
- The ability to build good relationships.
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure.
- Excellent multitasking abilities.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and a strong team player.
- Experience working with civil society organizations is an advantage.
