Job Vacancy: Field Monitoring Assistant – Good Neighbors International (GNI) – Cameroon

  • Position: Field Monitoring Assistant

Position Overview: Good Neighbors International (GNI) is seeking a dedicated and proactive Field Monitoring Assistant to track and evaluate the progress of our projects in Cameroon. The successful candidate will be responsible for closely monitoring project activities, ensuring alignment with operational goals, and providing data-driven insights for decision-making. This role is essential in ensuring the project’s effectiveness and accountability, with a focus on results-driven performance across various levels of operation.

The Field Monitoring Assistant will oversee the collection of data, including gender, age, and beneficiary categories, to assess project outcomes and impacts. They will also contribute to the project’s continuous improvement by ensuring compliance, identifying challenges, and proposing actionable solutions.

Key Responsibilities (not exhaustive):

  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of project activities, providing guidance, technical assistance, and mentorship to beneficiary groups (such as farmer groups).
  • Conduct regular site visits to agricultural production areas (crops and livestock farms) to assess the status of activities and address any challenges faced by farmer groups.
  • Support the Field Monitoring Officer in organizing and facilitating capacity-building training sessions for beneficiaries, ensuring successful execution.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, such as MINADER and MINEPIA, to select and register farmers, ensuring their active participation and compliance with the project.
  • Participate in project meetings with government stakeholders and other partners.
  • Ensure gender balance within beneficiary groups and foster the active involvement of women in decision-making processes.
  • Support the capacity-building of smallholder farmers (SHFs), Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), aggregators, and other rural actors to engage with structured markets, promoting market linkages with end buyers.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activities, including the delivery and distribution of agricultural equipment to producer groups.
  • Assist in ensuring active participation of smallholder farmers, including women and youth, in organized value chains and structured markets.
  • Work closely with Community Mobilizers and field technicians from MINADER and MINEPIA to collect feedback and insights from beneficiaries and stakeholders, supporting program reviews and improving services.
  • Address partner and beneficiary feedback, identifying project challenges and supporting efficient problem-solving.
  • Prepare and submit monthly monitoring reports to the Field Monitoring Officer and present findings during monthly monitoring meetings.
  • Provide regular updates on ongoing activities and report incidents to the supervisor when required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • A University degree in International Development, Humanitarian Studies, Project Management, International Relations, or a related field.

Experience:

  • At least two years of progressive experience in humanitarian and development organizations, particularly in emergency operations, data collection, and the use of monitoring tools. Experience in Livelihoods, Climate Adaptation, Food Systems, Agriculture, or related sectors is highly desirable.

Languages:

  • Fluency in French, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of Fulfulde or other local languages from the Far North Region is a plus.

Desired Qualifications and Experience for Entry into the Role:

  • Proven experience in data collection and report preparation, particularly in areas related to livelihoods and Climate Change Adaptive Food Systems activities.
  • Strong technical expertise in sustainable food systems, agriculture, nutrition value chains, and project implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing or monitoring projects related to sustainable food systems, Integrated Climate Risk Management programs, agriculture, and nutrition value chains, or similar sectors.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating initiative, responsibility, and responsiveness to various queries and unforeseen operational challenges.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in addressing daily operational issues.
