Job Opportunity: Officer, Donor Communications

Helen Keller International is looking for a strategic and mission-driven Officer, Donor Communications to develop engaging content that strengthens donor relationships and inspires generosity. This role will focus on transforming campaign messaging and human-centered stories into impactful donor communications, including email, direct mail, stewardship updates, and fundraising appeals. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished storyteller and editor, with a strong grasp of donor engagement strategies and a proven ability to create multi-channel content that drives action.

Key Relationships

The Officer, Donor Communications will be part of Helen Keller’s newly established Center for Marketing and Branding and will report directly to the Manager, Content Marketing. The role will work in close collaboration with the Individual Giving team as its primary partner, while also supporting business development and country program teams.

Key Responsibilities

The Officer, Donor Communications will:

  • Act as the primary liaison for donor communication needs, coordinating between internal teams and the Center for Marketing and Branding.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Direct Mail to develop content for donor acquisition and direct mail campaigns.
  • Produce compelling fundraising materials—including appeals, email campaigns, stewardship messages, and case statements—that drive engagement and strengthen donor loyalty.
  • Support business development and institutional fundraising through the creation of persuasive, donor-centered messaging frameworks and content.
  • Transform complex technical and programmatic information into clear, emotionally resonant stories that inspire donors.
  • Ensure consistency, integrity, and alignment with Helen Keller’s brand voice across all donor-facing communications.
  • Apply best practices in fundraising communication and donor engagement to maximize the effectiveness of donor outreach.

  • Contribute to campaign planning, content calendars, and performance reviews, supporting continuous learning and improvement.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who bring a blend of creativity, professionalism, and purpose to their work. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Experience: 4–6 years of experience developing donor-focused communications as part of a fundraising team, preferably within an international organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in storytelling and persuasive writing, supported by a portfolio that showcases effective donor communications across channels.
  • Experience in direct response fundraising (direct mail and email), with additional experience supporting donor engagement at multiple levels considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of donor engagement strategies across digital and print platforms.
  • Excellent project management skills, with a track record of effective collaboration and relationship-building.
  • A flexible, team-oriented approach with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Willingness to adjust work hours across time zones, with core availability aligned to U.S. Eastern Standard Time.
  • French language proficiency is desirable but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The midpoint annual salary for this full-time position is $85,000.
