Job Announcement: Political Assistant at the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé

The U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Political Assistant. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to U.S. foreign policy goals in Cameroon.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Internal Political Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on Cameroonian political developments, providing valuable insights to the Political Officer.
  • External Relations Analysis: Assess Cameroon’s foreign relations and diplomatic engagements, contributing to informed policy decisions.
  • Human Rights Promotion: Monitor and report on human rights issues in Cameroon, supporting U.S. efforts to promote human rights and democracy.
  • Outreach/Contact Development: Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in Cameroonian politics and society.
  • Biographical Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports on influential figures in Cameroonian politics.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in an international organization (NGO, IO, or Embassy) with at least one year focused on political reporting.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Cameroon’s political, economic, and diplomatic landscape, including its history, institutions, key figures, and social dynamics.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, or Journalism.
  • Language: Fluency (speaking/reading/writing) in English and French.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and maintain discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
