Job Announcement: Data Collection and Entry Specialist (Pool)

Action Against Hunger is an international, independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization working against hunger. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Collection and Entry Specialist to join our team in Cameroon.

Position Summary:

The Data Collection and Entry Specialist plays a crucial role in the collection, management, and reporting of accurate and reliable data. This position is part of a talent pool, providing support for various projects and initiatives as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection:

    1. Participate in comprehensive training to understand data collection tools, techniques, and ethical considerations.
    2. Actively engage in pilot testing exercises to refine data collection processes.
    3. Professionally interact with respondents, clearly explaining the purpose of data collection while respecting local customs.
    4. Accurately record data using various methods (paper-based forms, digital devices, etc.).
  • Data Entry and Management:

    1. Efficiently transfer data from various formats into computer files or databases.
    2. Meticulously create and maintain spreadsheets, ensuring accuracy and error-free data entry.
    3. Validate data by comparing it to source documents and make necessary updates.
    4. Retrieve data from databases or electronic files as required for analysis and reporting.
    5. Perform regular backups to safeguard data integrity and prevent loss.
    6. Organize and archive data collection materials for future reference.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

    1. Collaborate with supervisors and colleagues to develop and execute daily work plans.
    2. Maintain clear and open communication with supervisors, providing regular updates on progress and challenges.
    3. Promptly report any issues or concerns to supervisors for resolution.
  • Additional Responsibilities:

    1. Adhere to all Action Against Hunger security protocols and procedures.
    2. Carry and present an Action Against Hunger identification card at all times.
    3. Maintain a professional demeanor and uphold ethical standards in all interactions.
    4. Submit accurate and timely daily reports to supervisors, detailing activities and accomplishments.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Education: Advanced Level plus 2 certification in any field.
  • Preferred Education: Diploma or degree in public health, nursing, or social science.
  • Experience: Minimum of three months professional experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection related to health, nutrition, or similar issues, ideally within a development and/or humanitarian NGO setting.

Position Details:

  • Base: Kumba (South West Region) Pool
  • Additional Locations (as needed): Other areas within the South West Region, including Meme and Kupe Manenguba communities.
  • Start Date: As soon as possible (ASAP)
  • Reports To: Meal Manager

Essential Skills & Competencies:

  • Local Knowledge: Strong familiarity with the Meme and Kupe Manenguba communities, including customs and cultural practices.
  • Technical Skills:
    1. Proven data entry skills, with fast typing and proficiency in touch typing strongly preferred.
    2. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and comfort with other office equipment and computer hardware.
    3. Basic understanding of database management.
    4. Familiarity with Android or other smartphone applications.
    5. Experience with SMART data collection tools, particularly Kobo Toolbox, is highly desirable.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication in English, with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Personal Attributes:
    1. Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
    2. Proven ability to work effectively within a team and manage competing priorities.
    3. Resilience under pressure and the ability to handle stressful situations with composure.
    4. Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
    5. Strong work ethic and willingness to meet tight deadlines, including the flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
    6. Commitment to Action Against Hunger’s gender policy and actively promoting a gender-inclusive work environment.

Additional Considerations:

  • Prior experience working within the Meme and Kupe Manenguba communities is highly advantageous.

Recruitment Process

Action Against Hunger’s recruitment process for this position consists of three distinct stages:
