Position Overview:
UNICS Plc is in search of a dynamic and experienced professional to assume the leadership role in the Legal Affairs and Debt Recovery team as the Head of Legal, Litigation, and Recovery Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Risk Management: Conduct thorough legal risk assessments during credit processing, ensuring compliance with OHADA Uniform Act provisions in the constitution of collateral.
- Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Manage a wide range of legal contentions, including credit, social, general, and criminal matters.
- Policy Development: Develop and maintain robust legal, litigation, and recovery policies and procedures.
- Debt Recovery: Oversee amicable and forceful debt recovery procedures in accordance with OHADA guidelines, collaborating with legal practitioners as needed.
- Legal Counsel: Provide expert legal advice to management on diverse issues and manage the administration of collaterals.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience: Minimum five years of proven experience in debt recovery within a financial institution or equivalent setting.
- Education: Master’s degree in Business Law or a related field.
- Legal Expertise: Strong understanding of OHADA Uniform Acts and jurisprudence, with experience in legal practice (barristers, bailiffs, notary public) being a significant advantage.
- Skills: Demonstrated negotiation skills, excellent communication abilities (English and French, written and verbal), proficiency in legal software and Microsoft Office Suite, and a track record of working effectively in team environments.
