Job Overview
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is dedicated to providing innovative, patient-focused solutions to combat pediatric HIV/AIDS. To further this mission, EGPAF Cameroon is developing an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system designed to enhance patient care by ensuring the availability of accurate and timely data.
As part of our commitment to expanding healthcare access and improving outcomes, we are rolling out a nationwide point-of-care system to strengthen service delivery. This role plays a critical part in supporting EGPAF Cameroon’s strategic goals by collaborating closely with the global EMR development team, as well as strategic information (SI) and program staff, to achieve our vision of improving patient-centered care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Optimize and Enhance EMR Systems
- Develop and optimize the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by creating new modules and improving existing functionality.
- Analyze program requirements to identify areas of improvement, prepare actionable plans, and implement solutions for system enhancement.
Development and Testing
- Design, develop, and test EMR systems following established development tool guidelines.
- Maintain and troubleshoot the existing EMR system by identifying and resolving software issues.
Collaboration and Scalability
- Support the scalability of EGPAF’s enterprise architecture for national implementation in Cameroon and DRC.
- Collaborate with users and the technical team to prioritize and implement system feature requests effectively.
- Provide feedback on user experience to guide the impact-driven development of EMR systems.
Knowledge Management and Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on technological advancements and continuously develop skills to improve program outcomes.
- Share expertise to support knowledge management within the program and ensure effective dissemination of information.
Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to achieving team objectives and perform other reasonable duties as needed.
- Assist in developing other software applications upon request.
Required Qualifications and Key Competencies
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Information Systems, Health Informatics, or a related field.
Experience
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in software development.
- Strong knowledge and experience with EMR systems and eHealth development.
- Proficiency with OpenMRS programming and free/open-source technology stacks, including:
- Ruby on Rails
- JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap
- Database scripting and optimization (SQL, Postgres SQL, NoSQL)
- Data collection tools such as ODK and Kobo
- Experience with DHIS2 systems and health data collection standards (HL7 FHIR).
- Knowledge of web server management and optimization.
Other Skills and Personal Attributes
- Familiarity with Cameroon’s health systems and PEPFAR programs is a plus.
- Ability to translate user requirements into functional specifications.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Strong communication and analytical abilities.
- Experience in creating and motivating high-performing teams in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or within a team.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is an advantage.
- Experience with statistical analysis tools is a bonus.
- Demonstrates integrity, innovation, resilience, and a team-oriented mindset.
