External Job Vacancy: Midwife (M/F) | Action Against Hunger – Cameroon
Action Against Hunger is an international, apolitical, non-religious, and non-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). We are actively recruiting for the position of Midwife (M/F) to support our operations in Kumba, South-West Region of Cameroon.
Position Details:
- Location: Kumba, South-West Region
- Number of positions: 1
- Contract Duration: Until 31st March 2025
- Start Date: 5th November 2024
- Supervisor: Senior Health and Nutrition Officer
Role Objective
Objective 1: Strengthen Health Facility (HF) Management
Provide support to health facilities through supervised oversight and mobile clinics when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct weekly supportive supervision of health facilities.
- Organize and lead monthly meetings with health workers and Community Health Workers (CHWs).
- Prevent stock shortages by conducting monthly physical inventory checks and placing orders as needed.
- Maintain an up-to-date health facility database.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports to supervisors.
Objective 2: Enhance Community Health Activities
Support and improve community-based health initiatives to ensure efficient patient referrals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the referral system between the community, health facilities, and the Kumba Regional Hospital Authority (KRHA) operates smoothly.
- Supervise the activities of CHWs to ensure they meet organizational standards.
Objective 3: Ensure Effective Communication and Organizational Representation
Maintain clear communication and represent Action Against Hunger in community interactions and collaborative efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow up on all Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) referred to higher-level facilities to ensure they receive appropriate services.
- Strictly adhere to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidelines, ensuring aseptic conditions during service provision.
- Deliver health education to PLWs in waiting areas of Reproductive Health (RH) units.
- Actively participate in Continuous Medical Education sessions.
- Ensure the safety and security of all staff by adhering to humanitarian principles and organizational safety protocols.
- Assist in program quality improvement by participating in organizational meetings.
- Provide technical support in the usage of PEP kits when necessary, ensuring public health staff are trained and competent.
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors, including drug stock management.
Objective 4: Reporting and Documentation
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of field data to support organizational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage field data to assist in the preparation of routine reports.
- Compile, interpret, and share data with supervisors.
- Ensure the proper classification and archiving of all relevant documents.
- Support the update of monthly Action Plan Reports (APR) as directed.
- Provide accurate, up-to-date patient statistics when requested.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Essential: Diploma in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Desirable: Degree in Nursing or Midwifery (an advantage).
- Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in similar roles within NGOs or humanitarian contexts.
- Desirable: Experience in team management, conducting assessments, report writing, and drug supply management.
