Job offer: Nurse, Health – IMC

  • Job Title: Nurse, Health
  • Location: Cameroon – CM (Primary)
  • Duty Station: Bamenda
  • Category: Health
  • Start Date: 08/01/2025

Program Overview

This project is designed to meet the critical health needs of populations affected by ongoing humanitarian crises in Cameroon’s Northwest, Southwest, and Far North regions, which have also been impacted by recent flooding. The initiative will support approximately 200,000 individuals, including 20% from host communities, 46% internally displaced persons (IDPs), and 34% returnees.

The overarching goal is to reduce illness and prevent loss of life among these vulnerable groups by ensuring timely access to quality, life-saving healthcare services. The program will deliver essential interventions such as trauma care, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), reproductive health services, and robust outbreak surveillance and response mechanisms.

To strengthen healthcare delivery, emergency health kits will be supplied to WHO-supported health facilities. Mobile Medical Clinics (MMCs) will be deployed to areas where health facilities are either non-functional or only partially operational, ensuring adults and children can access basic health services and referrals for specialized care. In addition, trauma surgeons will be stationed at three healthcare facilities to provide expert surgical care, supported by trauma kits delivered to selected referral hospitals. Clinical psychologists will also be integrated into the program to ensure the availability of comprehensive MHPSS services for affected populations.

Program Enhancement

To strengthen public health preparedness, this project will reinforce event-based epidemiological surveillance across all health districts within the six targeted divisions. This approach aims to improve early detection, reporting, and rapid response to public health incidents and epidemic-prone diseases, including cholera.

An innovative component of this initiative is the integration of a cash-based assistance mechanism through health vouchers. These vouchers will help eligible individuals in areas with functional healthcare facilities access necessary medical services at no cost. Implementing partners will oversee the fair distribution and monitoring of vouchers, identifying beneficiaries during health awareness sessions and issuing vouchers according to established protocols.

Throughout implementation, the project will maintain a strong focus on disability inclusion, accountability to affected populations, and prevention and response to sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PRSEAH), while strictly upholding humanitarian principles and standards of care.
