Job Summary: Assistant Safety Advisor (ASA)
The Assistant Safety Advisor (ASA) will provide crucial support to the Safety Advisor (SA) by collecting, verifying, and analyzing safety-related information in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions. The ASA will also assist in preparing safety reports, incident lists, and delivering key services to ensure the safety and security of NGOs operating in the area.
Key Responsibilities
1. Information Collection and Verification
- Collect and verify safety-related information from various sources.
- Build and maintain close relationships with NGOs, the UN, local authorities, and other stakeholders to gather relevant contextual data for NGOs.
- Monitor media outlets and other information channels for updates relevant to NGO operations.
- Develop and expand a network of contacts outside of Field Monitors (FMs) and the NGO community.
2. Reporting and Analysis
- Collaborate with the SA and Deputy Safety Advisor (DSA) to produce accurate safety reports, threat warnings, and daily/weekly incident lists based on verified information.
- Ensure database accuracy by routinely reviewing updates made by the Information Team in Yaoundé.
- Support rapid data collection for critical Alerts and Reports.
- Take the lead in drafting PowerPoint presentations for Roundtable discussions.
3. Field Monitoring and Guidance
- Support the DSA in supervising and guiding INSO’s Field Monitors.
- Conduct regular field visits to develop a strong understanding of the local context.
4. Service Delivery
- Assist in delivering other INSO Scheduled and Request Services, including site safety reviews and responding to NGOs’ specific information requests.
- Proactively address NGO safety concerns by providing timely and accurate information.
- Participate in crisis response efforts in collaboration with the SA and DSA, focusing on information management.
5. Adherence to Policies and Professional Conduct
- Comply fully with INSO safety policies, procedures, and confidentiality protocols.
- Safeguard the confidentiality and security of NGO information and INSO documents.
- Maintain a professional attitude and contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Manage time effectively and ensure office tasks are completed efficiently.
Skills and Competencies Required
- Strong ability to collect, verify, and analyze data from multiple sources.
- Proven skills in writing clear and comprehensive reports.
- Capacity to maintain strong networks and working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions is an advantage.

- Review and validate the database regularly to ensure updates by the Information Team in Yaoundé are error-free.
- Support the timely collection of information for urgent Alerts and Reports.
- Take ownership of drafting PowerPoint presentations for Roundtable discussions.
3. Field Monitoring and Context Development
- Assist the DSA in overseeing and guiding INSO’s Field Monitors.
- Conduct regular field visits to enhance knowledge of the local environment and security landscape.
4. Service Delivery
- Support the delivery of INSO Scheduled Services such as safety reviews and customized Request Services for NGOs.
- Proactively address safety-related inquiries from NGOs by providing timely, actionable insights.
- Collaborate with the SA and DSA during crises, focusing on effective information management.
5. Adherence to Policies and Professional Standards
- Fully comply with all INSO safety policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelines.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding NGO information and INSO documentation.
- Exhibit a professional attitude and contribute to a positive and collaborative work culture.
- Effectively manage time and ensure office duties are handled with diligence.
Skills and Competencies Required
