Job Role Summary

The Communication Specialist assists the Public and Government Affairs Manager in the implementation of COTCO’s communication plan by developing internal and external communication tools. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and steward the company’s annual communication plan including strategies for implementation
  • Coordinate and facilitate the production of company communication tools
  • Assist the Public and Governmental Affairs Manager in interfacing with local Cameroon media. This includes monitoring local media, initiating contacts and meeting with influent journalists, drafting press releases and briefings, articles, company adverts, facts sheets, project updates, etc.
  • Administer company’s website.
  • Draft various communication supports for senior management: speeches, messages of introduction, briefing notes and other materials for internal and external use, etc.
  • Assist the company with the organization of special events and projects as required
  • Act as Communication team leader in the company’s Public & Government Affairs Emergency Response Organization (PGAERO);
  • Support company’s functions in their interface with key government officials

Expected Level of Proficiency

Ideal Candidate Profile

Educational:

  • Minimum University degree (BAC +4/5) in Information and Communication Sciences or other relevant education field
  • Five years plus (5 +) experience in public relations or similar industry experience

Skills and attributes required:

  • Proficiency in English and French languages with the ability to communicate in English over the phone and via e-mail
  • Reading, writing and advanced communication
  • Computer literate; Interpersonal skills
  • Strong communications and teamwork skills are a must.
  • Good problem solving and critical thinking skills;
  • Good organizational and administrative skills
  • Ability to communicate and work with others at all organizational levels
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and a good self-starter
