Application Deadline: February 9, 2024, at 12:00 PM United States Central Time (UTC-6).

About the Program: While in the White House, the Obamas traveled throughout the African continent, witnessing inspiring stories of young African leaders driving positive change. Since then, they have established partnerships to broaden opportunities and forge new connections for dedicated leaders, beginning with the inaugural Leaders Africa program in 2018.
Leaders Africa is a six-month, virtual, non-residential leadership program for 35 emerging leaders from across the continent. The program focuses on developing values-based leadership skills and fostering strong relationships among cohort members.
The Virtual Leaders Africa program is designed to identify outstanding individuals in the public sector, civil society, and private sector who demonstrate a strong commitment to addressing specific issues and can demonstrate the impact of their efforts. Our objective is to establish a network of leaders grounded in values, fostering positive and innovative changes in their communities, across Africa, and globally.
Participants engage in the following key components of the program:
- Weekly Virtual Video Calls: These live virtual sessions serve as the primary platform for collective participation. Occurring approximately four times a month, these sessions include a variety of content such as conversations with experts, introductions to leadership frameworks, skill development, etc. Interactive small group work takes place in breakout rooms during these sessions.
- Monthly Community Group Leaders: Participants collaborate in peer learning groups, promoting deeper relationship building and shared learning. These groups offer opportunities to reflect on case studies of influential African leaders and discuss open questions arising from group sessions.
- Individualized Leadership Coaching: Each leader is paired with a coach to enhance self-awareness, clarify goals, brainstorm ideas, achieve development objectives, and unlock their full potential.
