- Position Title: Communication & Special Initiatives Project Manager – Open to All Applicants (Public Health Administrative Management Specialist)
Overview:
The U.S. Mission in Cameroon invites qualified applicants to apply for the Communication and Special Initiatives Project Manager role within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This pivotal position focuses on driving effective communication strategies and managing high-impact initiatives that strengthen public health efforts across Cameroon.
Key Responsibilities:
The Communication and Special Initiatives Project Manager is instrumental in advancing CDC’s outreach by effectively communicating critical public health information to diverse audiences. The position involves extensive collaboration with both internal teams and external stakeholders and functions as a bridge between CDC Cameroon and the U.S. Mission’s Public Diplomacy Section.
Primary Duties:
- Strategic Communication Development: Craft and implement comprehensive communication plans that elevate CDC Cameroon’s public health message, ensuring clear, accurate, and timely information dissemination.
- Technical Support & Consultation: Offer technical guidance to CDC leadership and partner organizations to refine communication and engagement strategies.
- Media & Public Relations: Establish and manage relationships with media outlets, coordinate press coverage, and oversee public engagement activities for CDC-led events and announcements.
- Special Initiatives Oversight: Lead high-priority public health initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and maximizing impact through effective project management.
- Workforce Development & Employee Programs: Develop and implement workforce training programs, employee recognition initiatives, and other morale-boosting programs to foster a productive work environment.
- Cross-Agency Coordination: Act as a key liaison with CDC headquarters, facilitating alignment on strategies and protocols, and ensuring smooth coordination on projects and policy matters.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Design and execute systems for tracking and evaluating the success of communication strategies, using data-driven insights to enhance future projects and policy efforts.
Reporting Structure:
This role reports directly to the CDC Deputy Country Director and is central to ensuring that CDC’s public health objectives in Cameroon are met through cohesive and impactful communication and initiative management.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in managing communication-related projects and special initiatives within large organizations is essential.
Core Knowledge:
The ideal candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of communication project management and public health program outreach strategies. This includes expertise in methods utilized by public, private, or non-profit agencies for health communication and special initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness. Key areas of required knowledge include:
- Organizational operations and best practices for public health communication across diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with USG-supported public health initiatives, policies, regulations, and evaluation processes, which are crucial for developing, implementing, and measuring impactful programs.
Skills and Competencies:
Candidates must demonstrate advanced proficiency in both written and spoken English and French, with strong listening skills. Additional competencies include:
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities, with a proven record of independently delivering projects within deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multicultural, team-oriented environments.
- Sound editorial judgment, political sensitivity, and strong networking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with basic knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or Piktochart.
- Skill in crisis communication planning, anticipating communication needs, and training staff in project management and communication tools.
Position Details and Compensation

Annual Salary:
XAF FCFA23,335,933 per year, which includes:
- Base Salary
- Miscellaneous Benefits Allowance
- End-of-Year Bonus
- Additional Seniority Allowance in line with local labor regulations
