Join Our Team: Community Relay Agent – Empowering Vulnerable Populations in Cameroon
Project Overview:
As part of the third phase of our project, “Strengthening the Protection of Vulnerable Populations in the North West and West Regions of Cameroon,” we are actively seeking a dedicated Community Relay Agent with strong community recognition and acceptance. This role is crucial in promoting awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), facilitating victim identification and referral, and ensuring follow-up on violence cases within the community. The primary area of intervention will be Bamenda II, specifically Ntarinkon, End of Tar Longla Street, and Aziri.
Position: Community Relay Agent
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement: Conduct weekly door-to-door awareness sessions on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Child Protection, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
- Project Participation: Actively engage in all project-related activities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Mobile Clinic team during community outreach initiatives.
- Victim Support: Identify and refer GBV survivors to the Integrated Support Unit at the Bamenda Regional Hospital or other relevant services.
- Reporting: Collect data and submit a comprehensive monthly report to the Mental Health Supervisor.
- Continuous Learning: Participate in meetings, trainings, and supervisions to enhance skills and effectiveness.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Minimum Requirement: Ordinary Level Certificate or equivalent qualification.
Professional Experience:
- Experience: At least 12 months as a Community Relay Agent or in a similar role.
- Protection Work: Experience in Child Protection or Gender-Based Violence (GBV), particularly with vulnerable groups such as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and ethnic minorities.
- NGO Experience: Previous work with an international NGO is highly desirable.
- Child & Adolescent Engagement: Proven ability to work with children and adolescents.
General & Specific Skills:
- Integrity: Demonstrates high moral standards and probity.
- Community Standing: Highly recognized and accepted within the local community.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and influence skills, especially in multicultural contexts.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in English (oral and written).
- Additional Language: Knowledge of local languages, such as Pidgin, is an advantage.
- Commitment to Values: Adherence to the values, code of conduct, ethics, and humanitarian principles of Doctors of the World Switzerland.
