INSO is an international non-governmental organization (INGO) dedicated to supporting humanitarian access for NGOs. We provide timely, reliable, and objective analysis of local conditions that impact humanitarian operations. INSO enhances information sharing and coordination among NGOs, ensuring the neutrality of humanitarian aid while working collaboratively. Our focus areas include humanitarian access issues and best practices for information monitoring. We offer alerts, recommendations, analysis, and precise contextual, statistical, and cartographic data. Additionally, INSO organizes coordination meetings and trainings.

Job Summary

The Assistant Safety Advisor (ASA) will play a crucial role in supporting the Safety Advisor (SA) by gathering and verifying safety information in the Northwest & Southwest regions of Cameroon. The ASA will also assist in preparing safety reports and incident lists.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Information Gathering and Verification: Collect and verify safety-related information from various sources.

  • Liaison and Networking: Collaborate with NGOs, the UN, local authorities, and other stakeholders to gather relevant contextual information for NGO use.

  • Field Monitor Support: Monitor and guide INSO’s Field Monitors alongside the Deputy Safety Advisor (DSA).

  • Media Monitoring: Track media outlets to collect relevant information for NGO use.

  • Reporting: Contribute to the writing of safety reports and threat warnings in collaboration with the SA and DSA.

  • Field Expertise: Conduct regular field visits to develop a deep understanding of the local context.

  • Network Development: Work to establish and maintain a network of contacts beyond the Field Monitor and NGO community.

  • INSO Services: Assist in the delivery of other scheduled INSO services.

  • Incident Reporting: After thorough verification, produce comprehensive daily and weekly incident lists for the SA and DSA.

  • Database Maintenance: Ensure accuracy in the database by reviewing updates from the Yaounde Info Team.

  • Alert and Report Support: Assist in the rapid collection of information for alerts and reports.

  • Roundtable Presentations: Take the lead in drafting PowerPoint presentations for Roundtable meetings.

  • Additional Services: Assist in the delivery of other INSO request services.

  • Site Safety Reviews: Provide input on site safety reviews upon NGO request, collaborating with the SA and DSA.

  • Information Requests: Proactively respond to NGO inquiries regarding safety information.

  • Crisis Support: Provide information management support during crises, as needed, in collaboration with the SA and DSA.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to INSO’s safety policies and procedures.

  • Policy Compliance: Strictly comply with all INSO policy directives.

  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality and safety of all NGO information.

  • Document Security: Safeguard any documentation/procedures as outlined by INSO.

Professional Conduct and Attitude:

  • Upholds a professional demeanor and maintains a positive attitude at all times.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Completes other assigned tasks diligently and efficiently.
  • Manages time effectively to meet deadlines and prioritize workload.
  • Contributes to a positive and collaborative work environment.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Political Science, History, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in police, military, NGO safety work, or data analysis.
  • Language Skills: Excellent written and spoken English. Fluency in at least one local language relevant to the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon.
  • NGO Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of NGO safety approaches and best practices.
  • Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key safety stakeholders in the Northwest and Southwest regions.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office Suite.
  • Nationality: Must be a Cameroonian citizen.
