Barry Callebaut is recruiting for the needs of its services: a Project Engineering Leader based in Douala.

About the Role

The Project Engineer is a key contributor to the successful delivery of engineering projects. The role covers the full project lifecycle—from initial design and planning through to execution and completion—ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Working closely with cross-functional teams such as production, maintenance, quality, and management, the Project Engineer drives project objectives, optimizes operational performance, and supports the overall success of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Design & Documentation

  • Lead the development of engineering designs, specifications, process flows, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including manuals, reports, and technical records.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, GBS, external engineering firms, and consultants as required.
  • Prepare tender documents, provide technical evaluations, and support the Procurement team in supplier alignment.

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets in alignment with stakeholders.
  • Monitor deliveries and ensure timely availability of materials and equipment.
  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables with cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure projects comply with company objectives, policies, and industry regulations.

Quality & SHE Compliance

  • Implement food safety standards and ensure compliance throughout all project phases.
  • Guarantee adherence to SHE (safety, health, and environmental) requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and establish mitigation measures to maintain a safe workplace.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Provide regular updates and progress reports to the Engineering Manager.
  • Act as a key liaison across departments, addressing concerns, proposing solutions, and aligning objectives.
  • Organize and lead project meetings to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.

Project Execution & Monitoring

  • Oversee on-site execution of projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Track project milestones and prepare status reports for management.
  • Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve challenges arising during project implementation.

About You

Education & Technical Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field) preferred.
  • 5–10 years of experience in design and/or project management, preferably in the food industry.
  • Solid background in project management with cross-functional leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with process automation and systems integration.
  • Basic accounting and budgeting knowledge (business cases, feasibility studies).

Essential Experience & Knowledge

  • Proficiency in 2D CAD; familiarity with 3D CAD.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite, SAP, and engineering software tools.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively, handle multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving mindset and proactive approach.
  • Experience in engineering and/or process industries.

Technical & Functional Competencies

  • Strong technical foundation to analyze, understand, and develop core processes.
  • Regional mobility and willingness to travel as needed.

Interpersonal & Leadership Competencies

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in English (spoken and written).
