Peace Corps Cameroon
The Peace Corps is an independent international agency of the United States Government, operating in over 60 countries worldwide. Its mission is to foster global peace, friendship, and sustainable development by deploying trained American Volunteers to support the development efforts of partner nations.
Peace Corps operations in Cameroon began in 1962 at the request of the Cameroonian Government. The organization works in collaboration with the Ministries of Health, Education, and Agriculture through established memoranda of understanding that define key areas of partnership. Volunteers are placed with governmental and non-governmental organizations, community-based groups, health centers, and educational institutions. Their primary role is to support capacity building in the fields of education and community health, while also promoting mutual cultural exchange and understanding between the people of Cameroon and the United States.
