Recruitment notice: Project Accountant – Plan International

About Plan International

Plan International is a global humanitarian and development organization dedicated to advancing children’s rights and equality for girls. We firmly believe in the inherent power and potential within every child, but recognize that this is often stifled by poverty, violence, exclusion, and discrimination, disproportionately affecting girls.

Partnering with children, young people, supporters, and fellow organizations, we strive to create a just world by addressing the root causes of the challenges faced by girls and vulnerable children. Our work spans from a child’s birth through to adulthood, ensuring their rights are protected, and equipping them to face crises and adversity. We drive impactful change at local, national, and global levels, leveraging our extensive reach, experience, and knowledge.

With over 85 years of experience, we’ve united with other passionate optimists to transform the lives of countless children across more than 80 countries.

Our mission is clear: we won’t stop until we achieve equality for all.

The Opportunity

The Project Accountant plays a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of our projects. You will assist in the preparation of annual grant budgets, monitor the impact of operating plans on existing grants, and provide analysis and recommendations to management regarding necessary actions. You will also review project outlines and amendments to purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and budget availability in line with UNHCR-approved plans. Additionally, you will monitor grant expenditure, alert management to irregularities, and recommend renegotiations as needed.

Your responsibilities extend to managing the general ledger and cash flow, ensuring timely processing of cash forecasts, and fulfilling UNHCR’s project funding requirements. You will also review UNHCR documents for compliance, addressing any discrepancies appropriately.

About You

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A university degree in accounting, finance, or management.
  • At least three years of experience in a similar role or in grants management.
  • A strong understanding of project management, with in-depth knowledge of accounting regulations and grant fund management procedures.
  • Excellent knowledge of internal financial procedures and controls.
  • Experience with project reporting requirements and financial systems.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion

At Plan International, diversity, equality, and inclusion are fundamental to who we are and what we do. We strive to create a workplace that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve, offering equal opportunities to all, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

Our organizational culture is built on inclusivity, and we actively foster an environment where every team, in every office, in every country, is enriched by diverse perspectives, thoughts, and ideas. We embrace our commitment to racial justice, gender equality, girls’ rights, and inclusion.

Safeguarding Children and Young People

Plan International is deeply committed to safeguarding children and young people from harm. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of child abuse and exploitation.
