DATA SCIENCE WITHOUT BORDERS PROJECT
Funded by the Wellcome Trust Foundation, this three-year initiative aims to expand the use of data science across Africa. The project leverages vast health data resources and cutting-edge data analysis techniques, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, to enhance cross-border collaboration. The primary objectives are to build machine learning capacity within national teams and advance data analytics expertise using AI tools. Project coordination is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with implementation in Senegal, Ethiopia, and Cameroon (Douala General Hospital – DGH).
JOB SUMMARY
The Douala General Hospital (DGH) is seeking a Project Coordinator to support the Data Science Without Borders (DSWB) project in Cameroon. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, execution, and overall coordination of project activities within the country.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Planning and Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets using appropriate project management tools. Monitor progress, identify and mitigate risks, and propose solutions to address any deviations.
- Coordination and Communication: Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among project team members, stakeholders, and partners. Organize and lead meetings, workshops, and other project-related events. Prepare and disseminate project status reports to the Principal Investigator (PI), team members, and funding agencies.
- Research Support: Assist researchers with data collection, ensuring adherence to established procedures and quality control measures. Maintain data management systems and documentation in accordance with best practices. Conduct interviews and maintain accurate records while safeguarding participant confidentiality.
- Data Management: Facilitate communication and collaboration between data providers, analysts, and researchers. Contribute to the development and implementation of data cleaning and validation protocols.
- Administrative Support: Maintain clear and concise communication with all project stakeholders. Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and presentations. Draft correspondence related to the project, including emails and reports. Contribute to the development of research protocols, assessment tools, and project evaluation materials. Summarize project results and create presentation materials to support the dissemination of findings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- PhD in Public Health, Biostatistics, or a related field (preferred)
- Medical Doctorate (MD) with a focus on epidemiology (considered)
- Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related field (required)
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Project Coordinator in a research setting.
- Demonstrated experience in scientific writing and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Languages:
- Fluency in both English and French (written and verbal) is essential for this role.
- Skills:
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) is desirable.
