About EVIHDAF

EVIHDAF is an international research and development non-profit based in Yaoundé, Cameroon, dedicated to serving the West and Central Africa region. We foster a diverse team of researchers proficient in both English and French, who blend creative problem-solving with rigorous scientific methods, possessing both a global perspective and local expertise. Our network also includes regional and global consultants, some with university affiliations. In addition to our Cameroon headquarters, we maintain a USAID-funded project office in Niamey, Niger, and a Data Unit in Parakou, Benin.

Our Focus

EVIHDAF provides a wide range of services, including research, monitoring, evaluation and learning (RMEL); data analytics and survey research; research capacity building; and social and behavior change (SBC) research. Our core areas of focus include:

  • Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH)
  • Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)
  • Malaria and infectious diseases
  • Humanitarian/vulnerable contexts  
  • Support to service delivery

The Role

We are seeking a Research/Technical Director with a proven track record in technical leadership, project design, implementation, evaluation, publication, research utilization, and proposal development. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in RMNCAH and MIYCN, with additional knowledge in related areas like malaria, infectious diseases, and support to service delivery. While the position is based in Cameroon, remote work arrangements can be considered. The role demands adaptability, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure. It also involves both domestic and international travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for existing projects, including work plan development/review, monitoring research activities, and fostering relationships with stakeholders at both national and international levels.
  • Spearhead publication efforts and support the research team in producing research briefs, working papers, peer-reviewed articles, and conference presentations.
  • Lead proposal development initiatives to secure new funding, particularly from USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
  • Expand, mentor, and develop the research and communications team, and assist in identifying and recruiting new talent as our needs evolve.
  • Participate in relevant technical working groups on both national and global platforms.

Basic Qualifications

  • A PhD in Demography, Sociology, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of research and publication experience in RMNCAH and MIYCN.
  • Exceptional scientific writing and presentation skills, with a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
  • Familiarity with SBC research, gender/social norms, individual and community agency, and empowerment.
  • Experience in designing and implementing a variety of quantitative and qualitative research activities, including data analysis, reporting, and dissemination.
  • A history of leading successful global health proposal development efforts.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
  • The ability to clearly communicate complex research concepts, designs, and findings both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis software (qualitative and quantitative).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to manage an interdisciplinary team, collaborate with and lead a diverse range of governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, and promote data utilization for policy and program decision-making.
  • Experience with US-funded projects and the ability to effectively coordinate with US government agencies and other technical organizations.
  • Work experience in West and Central African countries.
  • Full professional proficiency in English and at least intermediate proficiency in French.
