Phenicia Conseil, a leading international non-profit organization dedicated to empowering rural communities in Africa through sustainable technology solutions, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Engineer to join their team in Cameroon. Position Summary:

As the Senior Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the successful execution of solar water pumping projects. Reporting to the local Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of project implementation, from initial site assessment and system design to construction, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the effective delivery of clean water solutions to underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Lead all field operations related to solar water pumping projects, including site selection, construction, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Technical Oversight: Work closely with local contractors to plan, design, and implement solar water pumping systems, ensuring adherence to quality standards and best practices.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for all system designs, water tower construction, water distribution points, structural analysis, and material selection.
  • Design Support: Provide expert guidance and supervision for the project design process, utilizing tools like Epanet, KMZ, and TDH to optimize system performance.
  • Community Needs Assessment: Evaluate community water requirements and available resources to determine the appropriate sizing of submersible water pumps.
  • Construction Supervision: Oversee all construction inspection activities, ensuring compliance with work plans, timelines, and quality control measures.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project records and submit regular progress reports to the international management team.
  • Contractor Management: Identify, evaluate, and negotiate contracts with local contractors, ensuring competitive pricing and adherence to project specifications.
  • Post-Installation Support: Conduct independent assessments of existing projects to identify and resolve any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Community Engagement: Provide technical training and education to community members on water system operation and maintenance.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal officials, local leaders, and international partners.
  • Communication: Respond promptly to all inquiries via email or Slack within 24 hours.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is a results-driven professional with a passion for community development and a proven track record in engineering. You are a team player with exceptional interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, from local communities to international partners. You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and possess a strong problem-solving aptitude with meticulous attention to detail.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or professional diploma in Water, Civil, or Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Technologically proficient with excellent computer skills, including proficiency in email, Microsoft Office Suite, and Epanet software.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in implementing rural water systems, with drilling or related experience considered a valuable asset.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is essential, along with proficiency in local languages.
  • Adaptability: Ability to commit to flexible working hours and thrive in a fast-paced, international environment with colleagues across different time zones.
  • Other: Valid driver’s license.
