Job Summary:

The Area Support Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of NRC’s humanitarian programs in the West Area of Cameroon. This position is responsible for leading and coordinating all support functions, including finance, human resources, logistics, and ICT, to ensure seamless operations and program implementation. The Area Support Coordinator will work closely with the Area Manager and be a key member of the Area Management Group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management:

    1. Provide line management and mentorship to support staff in finance, HR, logistics, and ICT.
    2. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
    3. Build capacity of support staff through training and development initiatives.
  • Operational Support:

    1. Contribute to the development and implementation of the Area Plan of Action.
    2. Ensure alignment of operational support functions with program objectives.
    3. Oversee the implementation of new country-specific technical SOPs, guidelines, and tools.
  • Financial Management:

    1. Ensure proper budget planning, monitoring, and reporting for the area.
    2. Assist the Area Manager in managing the Area Support Budget, including support costs for field offices.
    3. Maintain compliance with NRC financial policies and donor requirements.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:

    1. Ensure adherence to NRC policies, guidelines, and handbooks.
    2. Maintain compliance with donor and auditor requirements.
    3. Identify and mitigate operational risks in the area.
  • External Relations:

    1. Support the Area Manager in external representation, coordination, and relationship building.
    2. Foster positive relationships with local authorities, partners, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities The specific responsibilities outlined below will be tailored to the unique aspects of the job location, operational phase, strategic priorities, and the nature of program intervention.   • Performance Management: Utilizing NRC’s Performance Management system, conduct regular performance reviews for staff under your direct supervision.
  • Policy Compliance: Report any breaches of NRC’s personnel policies or code of conduct to the Area Manager promptly.
  • Workplace Culture: Foster a positive and productive work environment that reflects NRC’s core values.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure that all NRC support staff adhere to established standard operating procedures (SOPs), security protocols, and guidelines.
  • Team Leadership: Effectively manage and guide the team of staff reporting directly to the Support Coordinator.
  • Procurement and Recruitment: Oversee all recruitment and procurement activities, guaranteeing adherence to NRC’s guidelines, rules, and procedures.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate a comprehensive handover process for incoming Support Coordinators, including a detailed handover report, thorough induction on NRC processes and reporting, and introductions to relevant local authorities and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Competencies

Professional Expertise:

  • Proven experience working at a Coordinator level within a humanitarian or recovery context.
  • Prior experience with the United Nations or international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), particularly in support functions, is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in complex and volatile environments.
  • A track record of achieving tangible results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • A university or professional degree in finance, administration, logistics, or human resources (HR). An MBA would be an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of financial, logistical, and human resources management principles.
  • A good understanding of your own leadership style and strengths.

Contextual Skills and Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of the context in the Northwest and Southwest regions is essential.
  • Fluency in English is required, and working knowledge of French is preferred.
  • Familiarity with NRC procedures is an asset but not a prerequisite.
