The Opportunity

The Security Coordinator plays a critical role in safeguarding the safety and security of staff, assets, and programs within the emergency context of the far north of Cameroon. This position involves providing effective capacities and technical guidance in security management, including implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of security threats during the implementation of related activities at the field level.

The Security Coordinator will be responsible for identifying and mitigating direct threats specific to the organization’s work and reducing indirect, non-specific threats to acceptable levels, including those related to gender. Continuous monitoring of the security situation and updates to security plans as needed will be essential.

Based in Maroua for the entire Program Implementation and Influencing Area, the Security Coordinator will frequently travel within Mayo Tsanaga, Mayo Sava, Logone et Chari divisions, and all areas where Plan International operates in the Far North of Cameroon.

Reporting to the Emergency Response Manager, with dotted technical reporting to the Country Security Advisor, the Security Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of security policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure the security of all Plan International staff, property, and operations. This includes promoting a culture of security, managing security incident reporting, overseeing security guards, monitoring and analyzing the security situation in relation to the Nigerian Refugee and IDP response in the Far North region of Cameroon, and promulgating and maintaining security-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The Individual

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in security or a related field, along with proven practical work experience, preferably with a non-profit organization or NGO in international humanitarian aid programs. A demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute security operations in the field is essential.

The successful applicant will have experience in conducting participatory risk assessments and preparing situational analyses. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) in both French and English are required for clear and effective communication with a diverse range of audiences. Knowledge of local languages would be a significant asset.
