Position Overview
The U.S. Mission in Cameroon invites qualified and eligible candidates to apply for the Criminal Fraud Investigator (CFI) position within the Regional Security Office (RSO). This is a critical role embedded in the Consular Section, responsible for conducting and managing complex criminal investigations while fostering relationships with key stakeholders at local, regional, and international levels.
Key Responsibilities
As a Criminal Fraud Investigator (CFI), your primary duties include:
- Conducting Investigations
- Leading investigations into cases of forged travel documents, human trafficking, identity theft, bribery, terrorist travel, and other fraudulent or criminal activities.
- Managing investigations related to U.S. fugitive extraditions and interagency requests aligned with national security priorities.
- Building Strategic Relationships
- Establishing partnerships with local law enforcement, immigration agencies, prosecutors’ offices, and other relevant authorities.
- Serving as a liaison with U.S. law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Attorney’s Offices.
- Leadership & Oversight
- Overseeing the activities of non-RSO Locally Engaged Staff (LE Staff) involved in investigations.
- Collaborating with the Assistant Regional Security Officer-Investigator (ARSO-I) and, where applicable, the Senior Regional Security Officer (RSO).
- Coordination with U.S. Agencies
- Supporting U.S.-based investigations under the guidance of the Overseas Criminal Investigations Division (DS/INV/OCI) in Washington, D.C.
Qualifications
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:
- Law
- Criminal Justice and Forensics
- Law Enforcement
- Security Studies
- International Relations
- Political Science
Experience
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a relevant field, such as:
- Criminal or administrative investigations
- Security operations
- Court processes
- Technical or analytical roles in identifying and addressing criminal activities.
Language Skills
- Fluent proficiency (reading, speaking, and writing) in both English and French. (Language abilities may be tested.)
Security & Clearance Requirements
- Applicants must obtain and maintain a Security Certificate or Public Trust – Background Investigation Security Clearance.

Job Knowledge
The incumbent must possess a strong understanding of documentary sources of information and be well-versed in relevant local laws, including those related to privacy, marriage, and divorce. Additionally, the individual should have expertise in criminal activities, including the modus operandi of criminal organizations within their designated area of responsibility. This role requires an in-depth knowledge of local criminal law, judicial processes, and the ability to conduct analytical and legal research. A critical component of the position is the production of comprehensive investigative reports that reflect the incumbent’s efforts and findings.
The incumbent must also be adept at coordinating large-scale, high-profile investigations for both host nation and U.S. law enforcement agencies. Maintaining a network of key contacts who align with program goals is essential for success in this role.

- Salary:
- The gross annual salary comprises the Basic Rate, Miscellaneous Benefits Allowance, and the End-of-the-Year Bonus.
- Seniority Allowance is provided per local labor law.

Position Title: Mason

Job Overview
The Mason role falls under the Facility Management (FAC) Section and reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for performing scheduled and unscheduled masonry preventive maintenance and repair tasks across mission buildings and facilities, including both owned and leased residential properties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Executing skilled masonry tasks such as constructing buildings, foundations, and other structures using concrete, brick, and various construction materials.
- Installing floor tiles and repairing concrete surfaces and roofs as necessary.
- Serving as an incidental operator of official vehicles, as required by the mission.
Qualifications and Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Security Clearance:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Certificate or Public Trust Background Investigation Clearance.
- Background Check:
- All candidates will undergo a background investigation and may also need to complete a pre-employment medical examination.
- Work Start:
