Position Overview: Head of Compliance (Cameroon)

As Head of Compliance, you will lead the compliance function at our Cameroon office, ensuring full adherence to applicable laws, regulatory requirements, internal policies, and ethical standards.

Reporting to senior leadership, you will play a strategic role in safeguarding the company’s legal and financial integrity while protecting customer interests. You will also act as the primary interface with regulatory authorities and key institutional partners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Crime Prevention & Security

  • Design, implement, and continuously enhance AML/CTF and anti-fraud frameworks.
  • Translate regulatory requirements into technical specifications for implementation by the engineering team.
  • Develop and oversee transaction monitoring and customer screening systems.
  • Review suspicious activity cases and respond to requests from the National Financial Intelligence Unit (ANIF).
  • Conduct standard and enhanced due diligence on prospective partners.
  • Serve as the main liaison with regulators, partner banks, and microfinance institutions.

2. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure KYC procedures are fully aligned with regulatory expectations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and proactively implement necessary updates.
  • Develop and maintain risk mapping tools and internal control mechanisms.
  • Assess compliance and customer protection implications for new products and initiatives.
  • Promote a strong compliance culture through targeted training and awareness programs.
  • Identify and evaluate financial, legal, operational, and reputational risks.
  • Secure and manage required regulatory licenses and approvals.

3. Monitoring, Controls & Reporting

  • Oversee sanctions and PEP screening processes and ensure appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Maintain and update the company’s compliance framework documentation.
  • Develop and execute the annual compliance monitoring plan.
  • Document, investigate, and report compliance breaches and fraud incidents.

4. Leadership & Team Development

  • Structure and lead the KYC and Compliance team.
  • Recruit talent, define roles and responsibilities, and formalize compliance workflows.
  • Collaborate with the technology team on the implementation of compliance modules within the ERP system.

Candidate Profile

Professional Experience

  • 5 to 7+ years of experience in compliance within financial institutions (banks, telecom operators, payment institutions, MFIs, etc.), either within the CEMAC region or internationally.

  • Experience in banking or fintech environments is highly desirable.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong command of KYC, AML/CTF regulations, FATCA/CRS requirements, sanctions regimes, and associated compliance frameworks.

Languages

  • Full professional fluency in both French and English is mandatory, given interactions with international investors and local regulatory authorities.

Knowledge Base

  • In-depth understanding of banking compliance, risk management principles, and regional regulatory environments.

Role Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of core backend systems and APIs powering our fintech platform. You will collaborate closely with Product, Frontend, Mobile, and DevOps teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions in a highly regulated financial environment.

This position requires strong expertise in Python, particularly with Flask, along with solid software architecture and engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build high-performance RESTful APIs using Python and Flask, ensuring low latency for real-time financial transactions.
  • Enhance system scalability and reliability to manage large volumes of transactional data.
  • Contribute to backend architecture improvements and integrate modern technologies suited to fintech environments.
  • Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and provide technical guidance.
  • Ensure robust testing, validation, and quality assurance of developed features.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Mobile teams to deliver intuitive, reliable solutions tailored to local market needs.

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum Bac+4 equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in backend development.
  • Strong expertise in Python and Flask (or demonstrated ability to quickly master new backend technologies).
  • Experience working on scalable fintech or high-transaction platforms is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Python and Flask for lightweight, high-speed API development.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, asynchronous programming, and clean code principles.
  • Familiarity with Django or FastAPI is an advantage.

Security & Performance

  • Experience implementing security standards (OAuth, JWT, encryption protocols).
  • Monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and ELK Stack.
  • Performance optimization strategies, including caching mechanisms (e.g., Redis).

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, ECR, Lambda, S3).
  • Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.

Role Overview

As a Junior Quality Assurance Engineer, you will support testing activities under the guidance of the Senior QA Engineer to ensure the reliability, performance, and overall quality of our applications.

You will collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to detect issues early, enhance testing processes, and help deliver a seamless user experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate end-to-end transaction flows to ensure precision, reliability, and data consistency
  • Execute manual test cases for RESTful APIs, web platforms, and mobile applications
  • Conduct regression testing before production releases to confirm system stability
  • Report, monitor, and manage defects using Shortcut or similar tracking tools
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of comprehensive test plans, test cases, and documentation
  • Support the development and maintenance of basic automated test scripts under supervision
  • Test application performance within Docker-based containerized environments
  • Work closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to clarify requirements and replicate reported issues
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives)

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum Bac+4) in Computer Science or a related field
  • At least 1 year of experience in QA testing (experience in fintech or similar environments is an advantage)

Technical Skills

  • Exposure to automation tools such as Selenium, Appium, Cypress, Pytest, or Maestro

1. Role Overview

The selected candidate will contribute to structuring, engaging, and scaling the PaySika community to drive stronger user engagement and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and energize community spaces (WhatsApp groups, social media platforms, in-person meetups)
