Job Title: Relationship Manager – Investment Banking

  • Department: Corporate & Investment Banking

Recruiting Institution: UBA Cameroon – United Bank for Africa

Key Roles & Responsibilities

A. Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with large corporate clients, multinationals, and institutional customers of UBA Cameroon.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Bank and assigned client portfolios, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Conduct regular client visits, performance reviews, and feedback sessions to strengthen engagement and satisfaction.

B. Investment Structuring & Deal Execution

  • Originate and structure investment transactions on behalf of UBA Cameroon, including project finance, syndicated loans, asset-backed financing, and tailored corporate solutions.
  • Perform investment analysis and financial modelling to assess deal feasibility, pricing, risk-return profiles, and structuring alternatives.
  • Prepare investment proposals, term sheets, and deal memoranda for review and approval by internal credit and risk committees.
  • Work closely with Treasury, Legal, Risk, and Transaction Banking teams to deliver compliant and optimized financing solutions in line with UBA policies and regulatory requirements.

C. Credit & Risk Management

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of prospective and existing clients through in-depth financial analysis, cash-flow reviews, and sector assessments.
  • Prepare complete and accurate credit documentation in accordance with UBA Cameroon’s credit policy.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and proactively address early warning signals to protect asset quality.

D. Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across investment banking, trade finance, cash management, and other corporate banking services.
  • Cross-sell and up-sell UBA Cameroon’s corporate product offerings to increase wallet share and deepen client relationships.
  • Contribute to the achievement of revenue, profitability, and market share targets aligned with the Bank’s corporate banking strategy.

E. Portfolio Management & Market Intelligence

  • Monitor industry trends, market developments, and competitor activity to support client advisory and product positioning.
  • Stay informed on regulatory updates and macroeconomic factors affecting clients and investment transactions.

Required Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of corporate banking products, credit analysis, and risk management.

  • Good understanding of Cameroonian banking regulations and the OHADA legal framework.

  • Proven experience managing corporate portfolios and structuring financing solutions within a Cameroonian banking environment.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with solid experience in financial modelling and investment analysis.
  • In-depth understanding of structured finance products, corporate credit processes, and risk frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Results-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively across banking functions.
  • Proficiency in English and French.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Growth, quality, and profitability of the corporate portfolio.
  • Volume and successful execution of structured investment transactions.
  • Client satisfaction, retention, and relationship depth.
  • Credit quality and asset performance indicators.

Education

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • An MBA or relevant professional certification is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in corporate banking, investment structuring, credit analysis, or relationship management, with exposure to complex transactions.

A. Business Development & Client Relationship Management

  • Build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with large corporate clients across strategic economic sectors.
  • Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities to expand deposits, lending activities, trade finance, and other corporate banking solutions.
  • Drive revenue growth through effective cross-selling of the bank’s products and services.
  • Ensure exceptional service quality and high levels of client satisfaction at all times.

B. Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Lead, supervise, and support Corporate Banking Relationship Managers.
  • Define clear performance objectives and closely track team KPIs.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing coaching, mentoring, and professional development guidance.
  • Promote a high-performance culture grounded in ethics, collaboration, and accountability.

C. Credit & Risk Management

  • Oversee credit appraisal, approval processes, and ongoing loan monitoring.
  • Ensure strict compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory standards, and the bank’s risk appetite.
  • Monitor portfolio quality and proactively manage non-performing exposures.
  • Participate in credit committees and provide well-founded recommendations.

D. Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure all transactions adhere to internal controls, regulatory requirements, and AML standards.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, risk, and compliance teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and reliable reporting of business activities and performance metrics.

E. Strategy & Market Intelligence

  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of corporate banking strategies and business plans.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor positioning, and sector developments.
  • Demonstrate solid knowledge of the bank’s organizational structure, internal policies, systems, and processes.
  • Apply practical expertise in performance and career management frameworks, including familiarity with the Vision platform.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Strong expertise in corporate banking products, credit structuring, and risk management.
  • Sound understanding of Cameroonian banking regulations and the OHADA legal framework.
