The U.S. Embassy is seeking eligible and qualified candidates for the position of:
Economic Specialist
Vacancy Announcement

- Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Duties and Responsibilities
- Report to the Political/Economic (P/E) Officer and serve as Economic Specialist within the P/E Section
- Conduct in-depth economic analysis and produce high-quality written and oral reports
- Analyze key areas including:
- Macroeconomic trends
- Trade and investment conditions
- Fiscal and budget policy
- Regional economic integration (including CEMAC)
- Infrastructure and energy
- Financial sector developments
- Sanctions, anti-money laundering, and counter-terrorism financing
- Draft congressionally mandated reports within the assigned portfolio
- Provide back-up support for Commercial and Environment, Science, Technology, and Health (ESTH) portfolios when required
- Contribute to cross-cutting analysis across the Political/Economic Section
- Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of economic assistance programs
Economic Analysis and Reporting
- Conduct research and analysis on Cameroon’s economic environment
- Develop and maintain professional networks with:
- Government officials
- Civil society organizations
- Academic institutions
- Private sector representatives
- Prepare reports on meetings, developments, and major events
- Support official visits and represent the Embassy as needed
- Draft required reports, including those related to fiscal transparency and child labor
Development Assistance Support
- Coordinate with U.S. Government agencies (Treasury, USDA, State Department)
- Monitor implementation of assistance projects
- Identify challenges and provide analytical input
- Liaise with Government of Cameroon counterparts
- Provide policy recommendations and program support
Briefings and Stakeholder Engagement
- Deliver briefings to the Ambassador, senior officials, and visiting delegations
- Engage with mid- to senior-level stakeholders across public and private sectors
- Communicate U.S. policy positions effectively
- Analyze local perspectives and report findings to Embassy leadership and Washington
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage special projects aligned with Mission priorities
- Respond to information requests from Washington
- Draft cables, reports, and official correspondence
- Coordinate high-level visits
- Support daily operations of the Political/Economic Section
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously with initiative and adaptability
Qualifications and Requirements
Security and Pre-Employment
- Ability to obtain and maintain:
- Security Certification or
- Public Trust (Background Investigation) clearance
- Subject to background investigation
- May be required to complete a pre-employment medical examination
- Must be able to assume duties within a reasonable timeframe after clearance
Education
- University degree required in one of the following fields:
- Economics
- Business Administration
- Sociology
- International Development
- Environmental Policy or Public Health Policy
Evaluation Process
- Applications assessed against stated qualifications and requirements

Professional Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in:
- Economic research
- Analysis
- Reporting
- Experience must demonstrate:
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Clear written and oral communication of findings
Language Proficiency
- Fluency in English and French (reading, writing, speaking) required
- Language proficiency may be tested
Knowledge Requirements
- Strong understanding of:
- Cameroon’s political, economic, and social environment
- Regional and international development issues
- Familiarity with:
- U.S. Government structure and foreign policy priorities
- Embassy reporting processes and Washington priorities
- Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Online research tools
- Ability to maintain institutional knowledge

- Ability to represent the U.S. Government independently
