Program Objectives
The program aims to support high-potential students from all five continents by offering concrete scholarship opportunities. Through these scholarships, it also seeks to promote the internationalization of universities and strengthen cooperation between Brazilian institutions and their global partners. Each scholarship serves as a key instrument for fostering academic and scientific exchange.
Eligible Fields of Study for GCUB Scholarships
The scholarships offered under the GCUB program are available for Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Brazil, with academic intake scheduled for 2026. Each scholarship enables selected candidates to pursue higher education at recognized institutions.
Who Can Apply for a GCUB Scholarship?
To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Submit an individual scholarship application in Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French
- Be a citizen of a country that maintains diplomatic relations with Brazil
- Not hold Brazilian nationality
- Demonstrate good physical and mental health to pursue higher education under the scholarship
- Be able to cover expenses not included in the scholarship (airfare, visa fees, international health insurance, living costs)
- Clearly specify the desired scholarship level: Master’s or PhD
- Provide the required academic diploma for the selected scholarship level
- PhD applicants must verify specific program requirements (including possible Master’s degree requirement), as failure to comply may result in rejection of the scholarship application
- Each applicant may apply to up to five programs under the scholarship scheme, ideally across different universities and regions of Brazil
Thus, each GCUB scholarship represents a strong opportunity for academic growth, international exposure, and professional development.
Eligibility by Country
Good news for Francophone African applicants: Brazil maintains diplomatic relations with many African countries, including Cameroon, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, and Gabon.
In addition, applications are accepted in French, which is a major advantage for Francophone candidates. Knowledge of Portuguese is not required to apply, although Portuguese courses are usually offered upon arrival to facilitate integration.
Who Can Apply?
The GCUB scholarships are open to international students from all five continents. This wide accessibility promotes cultural and academic diversity within Brazilian universities.
Benefits of a GCUB Scholarship
Each scholarship under the GCUB program provides several key benefits throughout the study period:
- Full exemption from tuition fees, registration fees, and academic charges
- Monthly financial allowance:
- Master’s scholarships: monthly stipend based on Brazilian federal agency standards, up to 24 months
- PhD scholarships: monthly stipend for up to 48 months, depending on the program
In addition, each scholarship grants access to university facilities under the same conditions as other students, including libraries, laboratories, classrooms, and other academic services. Beneficiaries may also access university restaurants where available.
Important Information About the Scholarship
It is important to note that the scholarship is not paid immediately upon arrival. Selected candidates must therefore be able to cover initial expenses until the first payment is received. Applicants are strongly advised to consult their host university regarding the payment schedule of the scholarship.

The scholarship also does not cover administrative costs such as document legalization, visa processing, or any other unlisted expenses. Proper financial planning is therefore essential.
