Choice of Country and University
The choice of the country and university where the student will pursue their studies is determined during the Ashinaga Summer Camp. This decision is made in collaboration with the student, but the final decision rests with Ashinaga. Several criteria are taken into account, such as visa requirements, language prerequisites, the student’s academic performance, and availability depending on the preferred academic path.
Eligible Countries in 2024
For the year 2024, citizens of the following countries are eligible for the Ashinaga Scholarship: Angola, South Africa, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Comoros, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Conakry, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mauritania, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Chad, Togo, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Eligibility Criteria for the Ashinaga Scholarship
The Ashinaga Africa Initiative Scholarship 2025 is intended for students who meet the following criteria:
- Loss of a Parent: Have lost one or both parents.
- Educational Level: Have completed secondary education and obtained the high school diploma (technical, technological, and professional diplomas are not eligible) after August 2, 2022, in 2023, in 2024, or be on track to obtain it before February 9, 2025.
- Citizenship: Be a citizen of a sub-Saharan African country and have completed or be completing secondary education in one of these countries.
- Date of Birth: Be born after September 1, 2002.
- Financial Resources: Lack the financial means to fund university studies up to the first degree.
- Language Proficiency: Have a good command of French, English, or Portuguese.
- Academic Excellence: Have maintained good academic performance during the last three years of high school. Candidates with a grade below 13/20 in the high school diploma have lower chances of being admitted.
- Participation in Preparatory Programs: Be available to participate in the two one-year Ashinaga preparatory programs before university entry.
- Commitment to Africa: Commit to returning to sub-Saharan Africa after graduation, with the aim of actively contributing to African society.
- Family Situation: Do not have dependents that could prevent the continuation of studies.
- Health: Be in good health and able to study abroad.
How to Apply for the Ashinaga Scholarship?
The application process for the Ashinaga Africa Scholarship takes place in two stages:

Documents required for registration:
- A scanned copy of your national ID card, passport, or birth certificate.
- A photo or scanned copy of the latest school report or transcript from your last year of high school.
- A scanned copy of the high school diploma certificate or any document proving the completion of secondary education (if applicable).
- Application PhaseA few weeks after registration, you will receive a message confirming your eligibility. If you are pre-selected, you will proceed to the next step: the full application form.
Documents required for the application:
- A passport-sized photo.
- A copy of your passport or ID card.
- A copy of your birth certificate.
- A copy of the death certificate or disappearance of the parent(s), or any official document proving death or orphan status.
- Copies of all school reports or transcripts for the last three years of high school.
- A copy of the high school diploma certificate and detailed transcript.
- A recommendation letter from a teacher, including their contact details and information about your academic performance and personality.
- If applicable, copies of certificates from extracurricular activities, training, employment, or other engagements.
Final Step: Evaluation
After the application deadline, the files will be reviewed, and selected candidates will be invited for a final evaluation. This includes individual interviews and a written assessment aimed at evaluating your academic abilities and career goals in sub-Saharan Africa.
