Scholarship Africa Dream BAD and Japan 2025 (funded)

Applications are now open for the Africa Dream 2025 Scholarship, offered by the African Development Bank and the Japanese government. This scholarship is aimed at citizens of the African Development Bank member countries who possess relevant professional experience and are committed to contributing to the development efforts of their home country. Applicants must be seeking admission to a graduate program in energy development or related disciplines.

The Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) aims to strengthen skills development in Africa through a partnership between the African Development Bank and Japan. Its primary goal is to build human capacity on the continent, in line with the Bank’s five strategic priorities: to feed, power, industrialize, integrate Africa, and improve the quality of life for African populations. These priorities are aligned with Japan’s major development assistance initiatives.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Full coverage of tuition fees.
  • A monthly living allowance of 140,000 JPY (subject to change).
  • Economy class airfare between the home country and APU University at the beginning and end of the program.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a national of an African Development Bank member country.
  • Must be 35 years old or younger.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, engineering studies, or related fields, with an excellent academic record.
  • Have at least 1 year of paid work experience in Africa after obtaining the bachelor’s degree, within the past three years.
  • Must not reside or work outside their home country.
  • Must not be enrolled in any graduate program.
  • Must not have any familial ties to an Executive Director, alternate, or staff member of the African Development Bank.
  • Must commit to returning to their home country to contribute to its economic and social development after completing their studies.

Application Process

To apply for this scholarship, simply submit your application through the APU online form before September 16, 2024 (for enrollment in April 2025) or January 10, 2025 (for enrollment in September 2025). No additional forms or documents are required for consideration.
