Intersos Cameroun is currently hiring one Social Worker to The social worker provides psychosocial support for survivors of protection cases.
Main objective and tasks The social worker delivers psychosocial assistance to individuals who have experienced situations requiring protection (this includes gender-based violence and concerns related to child welfare).
Tasks:
- Conduct initial interviews with individuals identified by the team during outreach efforts or referred by other organizations, and initiate a case if vulnerability criteria are fulfilled.
- Perform comprehensive evaluations for each client after obtaining their consent, taking into account emotional, behavioral, and social factors that impact their psychosocial well-being, along with protection and risk factors.
- Connect clients to suitable services and, if necessary, accompany them to various service providers.
- Guarantee proper and secure filing and archiving of case management files to uphold data confidentiality.
- Carry out all responsibilities while adhering to essential protection principles, including but not limited to do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability, and need-to-know principles.
- Map service providers in the intervention area.
- Ensure effective coordination with other protection organizations active in the intervention area.
- Collaborate with health centers to guarantee adequate medical attention for survivors, including the availability and management of Post-rape kits.
- Proactively identify challenges related to psychosocial support, suggesting solutions to achieve the project’s goals and activities.
- Conduct awareness-raising activities on available services and participate in community mobilization and the development of key messages for dissemination.
- Maintain up-to-date tools and generate high-quality and accurate activity reports.
- Organize Focus Groups with beneficiaries to pinpoint issues related to safeguarding vulnerable individuals with specific needs.
- Adhere to guidelines [respect, confidentiality, non-discrimination, security], and treat survivors with respect and compassion by maintaining confidentiality.
- Actively participate in scheduled weekly meetings led by the field coordinator and project management.
- Collaborate closely and effectively with Protection Monitors in the field.
- Be adaptable and willing to take on any other tasks assigned by INTERSOS that contribute to achieving the project’s objectives.
Educational and professional experience required
- A university degree in a relevant field such as Social Work, Psychology, or a similar discipline is preferred.
- Training in humanitarian protection topics like community-based protection, survivor-centered case management, PSEA, GBV, and Child protection is considered an advantage.
Technical and Behavioral Competencies Required
Work Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working within a humanitarian setting, preferably with an association, NGO, or INGO.
- At least 1 year of on-the-ground experience in the NW or SW regions during the crisis.
- Demonstrated experience in social work within a similar context.
- Experience working or collaborating on a UNHCR project is a plus.

- Empathy: The capacity to understand and share the feelings of others, particularly those affected by the crisis.
- Team Management: At least 1 year of experience managing a team at a similar level is preferred.
IT Skills:
- Proficient: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Familiar: Mainstream web browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox), Web-based chat and conferencing tools/platforms (Skype, Teams, Zoom, and WebEx), Web 2.0 tools (cloud storage, webmail, etc.)
Language Skills:
- Fluent: Written and spoken formal English
- Strong: Writing and reporting skills
- Fluent: Pidgin English
