Maersk in Sub-Saharan Africa (AFR) would like to invite the right candidate to join us as the newly created Area L&S Procurement Manager for South West Africa (SWA). We are looking for a candidate that can drive both Team and Value leadership and possess a strong customer mindset.

The person will ensure that every dollar spent is spent professionally. This is achieved by reducing operating expenses and driving a saving mindset by applying procurement capabilities and tools. The function aims to attain a competitive asset base for the future that is fully operational, at cost, on time. Key responsibilities

  • Leads, directs, evaluates, and develops the L&S Procurement function in South West Africa (SWA)
  • Being an integral part of the Area Management Team and hence being a true business partner
  • Responsible of designing an executing a Procurement strategy together with Area and Regional stakeholders as well as AFR Procurement
  • Leading negotiations and driving engagement between Maersk and its suppliers.
  • Managing complex procurement projects within operations, to ensure alignment between costs, commercial needs and operational execution.
  • Responsible for supplier relationship management, building strong relations with the vendors to drive value through the supply chain
  • Being accountable for the portfolio framework to help ensure cost leadership, compliance and best in class supplier performance.
  • Accountability for problem solving, analytical work, and driving insights from analytical work related to procurement functions
  • Performing supplier market analysis and organising market intelligence.
  • Cooperating closely with colleagues and stakeholders in all Maersk offices and with manager and colleagues within Africa.
  • Some travel must be expected
  • Has responsibility for training and growing employees within the L&S Procurement function to build organizational capability, talent, improves the way the team works
  • Close interaction with Contract Management through self and team, to ensure all agreements are realizing contractual values
  • Driving Maersk’s vision of becoming a global integrator of container logistics and growing the company’s inland footprint in Africa.
  • Solving problems in a structured and analytical manner
  • Managing internal and external stakeholder relations
  • Overall responsible for optimizing the procurement spend across the L&S 3rd party spend
  • As a member of the Area ALT the incumbent will play a key role in the development and execution of the L&S commercial strategy
  • Develop category strategy in alignment with area business plans
  • Enable sustainable and profitable growth through best-in-class sourcing, optimizing operational behaviors and supplier innovation.
  • Develop and oversee the realization of the procurement plan (Pipeline)

We are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, logistics and supply chain management
  • 10 years procurement would be a key advantage and i.e. in a matrix organization.
  • Experience in leading teams is a must.
  • Fluency in French is a plus.
  • Experience in Transformation is a plus.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous contexts and quickly adapt without losing speed or executional focus
  • Experience in leading significant contract negotiations is necessary, ideally within supply chain management, logistics or shipping operations.
  • Ability to drive motivation & engagement within the team
  • Awareness of cost drivers will be highly valued in the selection process.
  • It is necessary to possess experience within project management and it is expected that the candidate in previous roles have acted as project leader for cross-functional projects.
  • The individual we are looking for must have strong communication & interpersonal skills, through which he or she will engage a broad range of colleagues and stakeholders locally, regionally, and globally across a wide range of departments.
  • We are looking for an experienced negotiator with a solid track record within various environments and across multiple geographies.
  • Seek new opportunities with the customer in mind and be open to and listen to new ideas and different perspectives

The person will be responsible for driving key procurement projects forward and will be an integral part of the team and its ability to deliver on our ambitious goals. Ideal candidate may have experience in below categories:
