WETECH (Women in Entrepreneurship and Technology) is a hub for innovation and a supportive association dedicated to empowering African women in entrepreneurship and technology sectors. Our mission is to foster a vibrant network of dynamic female leaders by offering them avenues and resources for growth in entrepreneurship and technology. WETECH designs and implements training, coaching, and mentorship initiatives tailored for women and girls across Africa. Additionally, we offer a collaborative workspace for startups and professional gatherings.

We are currently seeking a Communication and Community Specialist (internship) based in Douala.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled communication and community specialist to join our team. If you possess a strong understanding of technology, along with experience in managing social media, executing public relations campaigns, organizing promotional events, and crafting strategic communications, then we encourage you to apply. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills in both of Cameroon’s official languages and demonstrate the ability to create compelling content. They should be adept at fostering positive relationships and possess exceptional customer service skills, capable of facilitating discussions both online and offline within our community. Ultimately, the chosen candidate will serve as the primary liaison and spokesperson for our organization, responsible for overseeing all community communications.

The Communication and Community Specialist is responsible for:

  • Developing and executing social media and communication campaigns in line with the organization’s marketing strategies.
  • Creating compelling text, image, and video content for our social media platforms.
  • Promptly addressing comments and inquiries from our target audience.
  • Crafting and managing the WETECH newsletter.
  • Monitoring and analyzing feedback and online reviews.
  • Planning and participating in events to foster community engagement and raise awareness of WETECH initiatives.
  • Ensuring consistency in communication and community management by collaborating with the Communication Manager and technical teams.
  • Maintaining close communication with programs and growth departments to stay informed about new initiatives.
  • Cultivating relationships with members of our target community, industry professionals, and journalists.
  • Remaining current with digital technology and communication trends.

Education

  • Hold at minimum a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, or a related field.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience of at least 2 years as a community manager.
  • Proven track record in strategic communication.
  • Experience in initiating community-driven projects.
  • Proficiency in identifying and monitoring pertinent community metrics.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills in English and French.
  • Outstanding writing abilities in English and French.
  • Practical experience in managing social media and communication for brands and organizations.
  • Capability to interpret website traffic and online community engagement metrics.
  • Familiarity with online marketing tools and channels.
  • Strong attention to detail and adept at multitasking.
  • Proficiency in utilizing new technologies such as Google Pack and various social networks.
