WCO JAPAN SCHOLARSHIPS 2025 for Customs Officers from Developing Countries

Call for Applications: Japan-WCO Scholarships for Master’s in Customs and Strategic Management (2025-2026)

The World Customs Organization (WCO) and Aoyama Gakuin University in Japan are inviting applications for their scholarship program aimed at future leaders in the customs sector. This unique opportunity will allow selected candidates to pursue a Master’s in Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights (SMIPRP) for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The SMIPRP program, a collaboration between the WCO and Aoyama Gakuin University, offers cutting-edge training in strategic management, organization, and intellectual property rights. Students will develop key skills to address the challenges of the customs world, gaining a deep understanding of management strategies, international customs policies, and legal issues related to intellectual property.

Upon completion of this program, students will earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Japan-WCO scholarship program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a national of a developing country that is a member of the WCO.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Be a customs official in their home country and be able to provide proof of employment status.
  • Have at least two years of professional experience in the customs field, demonstrating active involvement.
  • Be in good health and preferably under 40 years of age as of April 1, 2025.
  • Have proficiency in English.

Benefits of Japan-WCO Scholarships

Recipients of these prestigious scholarships will receive:

  • Full coverage of registration fees ($1842) and tuition fees ($5824).
  • A monthly stipend of $933 to cover housing, meals, and travel during your studies.
  • A round-trip economy class airfare from your home country to Japan.

Important: Families may accompany scholarship recipients, but the allowance will not cover their expenses.

  1. Complete the online application form.
  2. Receive an email with a link (https://www.aoyamasmiprp.jp/application/). Access the URL provided in the email for a username and password to access the application platform.
  3. Log in to the platform, download and complete the required documents.

Essential Documents for Your Application:

  • Recent passport photo.
  • Two letters of recommendation from your professors or employers.
  • Employment certificate and leave authorization from your current employer.
  • Research proposal detailing your study project.
  • Certified copies of your higher education diplomas.
  • Certified copies of your higher education transcripts.
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS results, or an official certificate of your English proficiency.
  • Photocopy of your passport.
