Key Responsibilities

The Field Monitoring Assistant will play a critical role in overseeing project activities to ensure alignment with operational objectives and desired outcomes. The role demands a strong focus on performance tracking, data analysis, and result-driven decision-making. Key tasks include:

  1. Daily Monitoring & Analysis
  • Track and analyze project performance indicators to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Measure results against established targets and implement necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
  1. Data Collection & Reporting
  • Collect comprehensive, disaggregated data (e.g., by gender, age, beneficiary category, and socio-cultural characteristics, where applicable).
  • Monitor key variables, including beneficiary satisfaction and organizational accountability to affected populations.
  • Generate high-quality data for evaluative reports and periodic updates at all organizational levels.
  1. Operational Support
  • Provide actionable insights to inform project design and implementation strategies.
  • Contribute to evidence-based decision-making for enhanced project outcomes.
  1. Performance Measurement
  • Monitor project outputs, outcomes, and processes to ensure alignment with Good Neighbors International’s mission and standards.
  • Support accountability mechanisms and uphold transparency in operations.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Strong analytical and data collection skills, with the ability to disaggregate and interpret data effectively.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes within the NGO sector is an advantage.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail and a results-oriented approach.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with beneficiaries and team members.
  • A demonstrated commitment to accountability and transparency in humanitarian projects.

Key Responsibilities (Not All-Inclusive)

As a Field Monitoring Assistant, the incumbent will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Project Monitoring and Support
  • Track the progress of project activities and provide technical guidance, assistance, and mentorship to project beneficiaries, including farmer groups.
  • Conduct regular field visits to crop and animal farms to assess the progress of agricultural activities, identify challenges, and document findings.
  1. Capacity Building and Training
  • Assist the Field Monitoring Officer in organizing and facilitating capacity-building training sessions for beneficiaries, ensuring the success of these initiatives.
  • Collaborate with government authorities (MINADER and MINEPIA) to select, register, and engage farmers while ensuring their adherence to project requirements.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement
  • Participate in project meetings with government representatives and other stakeholders to enhance collaboration and coordination.
  • Ensure gender balance within beneficiary groups and actively promote women’s participation in decision-making processes.
  1. Support for Smallholder Farmers and Market Linkages
  • Strengthen the capacity of Smallholder Farmers (SHF), Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), aggregators, and other rural actors to access structured markets.
  • Facilitate market linkages through platforms and collaborations with end buyers.
  • Monitoring and Documentation
  • Maintain comprehensive records of project activities, including the effective delivery and distribution of agricultural equipment and materials to producer groups.
  • Monitor the active participation of smallholder farmers, including women and youth, in organized value chains and markets.
  • Liaise with Community Mobilizers and field technicians from MINADER and MINEPIA to collect feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders, supporting program reviews and service improvement.
  1. Feedback and Reporting
  • Receive and address feedback from partners and beneficiaries to identify and resolve project-related issues efficiently.
  • Prepare and submit detailed monthly monitoring activity reports to the Field Monitoring Officer, presenting findings during monthly monitoring meetings.
  • Provide regular updates on ongoing activities and submit incident reports as required.

Standard Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • A University Degree in International Development, Humanitarian Work, Project Management, International Relations, or a related field relevant to this position.

Experience

  • At least two (2) years of progressive work experience in humanitarian and development organizations or emergency operations.
  • Proven expertise in data collection and monitoring tools, particularly in Livelihoods, Climate-Adaptive Food Systems, Agriculture, or related fields.

Languages

  • Fluency in both written and spoken French.
  • Knowledge of Fulfulde or other local languages in the Far North Region is highly desirable.

Desired Experiences for Entry into the Role

  • Data Collection & Reporting: Demonstrated experience in gathering data and preparing reports, especially within Livelihoods and Climate Change-Adaptive Food Systems.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficient understanding of sustainable food systems, agriculture, nutrition value chains, and project implementation.
  • Project Experience: Experience in managing or monitoring projects related to sustainable food systems, Integrated Climate Risk Management programs, agriculture, or nutrition value chains.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong initiative, responsibility, and the ability to respond independently to diverse queries under minimal supervision. Capable of making informed decisions to address unforeseen operational challenges effectively.
