Job Title: Area Business Manager (Bilingual)
Location: Noun, Cameroon

About the Role:

The Area Business Manager is responsible for driving sales, collections, and distribution within their designated territory. This role focuses on managing the direct distribution of Sun King Solar products through the EasyBuy model (a Pay-As-You-Go payment system). The manager will oversee a network of agents known as Energy Officers and is accountable for maintaining sustainable growth in sales and collection performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and Retain Energy Officers: Recruit, train, and lead a team of at least 40 Sun King Energy Officers. Leverage local influencers, such as village leaders, teachers, doctors, and farmers, to attract talent committed to the mission of providing clean, reliable, and affordable energy.
  • Energy Officer Training: Conduct training sessions covering sales techniques, product knowledge, collections, inventory management, and logistics. Ensure that Energy Officers operate with high levels of integrity, ethics, and professionalism in all customer interactions.
  • Define Roles and Responsibilities: Provide clear daily objectives, including specific sales routes, collections plans, and sales targets. Empower Energy Officers with the tools and confidence to address customer inquiries and concerns, offering direct access to the Area Business Manager as needed.
  • Field Engagement: Conduct weekly field visits to connect with each Energy Officer in person or by phone. Collaborate on the first five sales with each new Energy Officer to ensure they understand the sales and collection processes thoroughly. Address and escalate any field challenges to the Regional Business Manager.
  • Joint Field Activities: Organize joint sales and training sessions in local markets and communities. Encourage team engagement through activities such as night activations, market events, and visits to Self-Help groups and retail centers, focusing on both individual and group sales strategies.
  • Achieve Sales and Collections Goals: Meet or exceed monthly sales and collections targets as defined by the Regional Business Manager. Provide daily and weekly updates on progress, recruitments, customer concerns, and resolutions.
  • Strengthen Sales Processes: Monitor and support daily collection efforts. Train Energy Officers on effective customer profiling, follow-ups, and issue resolution to enhance collections. Implement repossession protocols when necessary, ensuring compliance with all company standards.
  • Market Awareness: Stay informed about competitors offering similar products within your area. Take proactive steps to protect and expand Sun King’s market presence in your territory and report key insights to management.
  • Customer Support Excellence: Deliver exceptional customer service related to product delivery, usage instructions, payment processes, installations, and warranty support. Ensure all customer issues are addressed within a 24-hour timeframe, coordinating with Energy Officers as needed.
  • Marketing and Expense Management: Distribute marketing materials and necessary equipment (such as smartphones) to all Energy Officers. Optimize the return on investment for marketing costs, supply chain, store upkeep, and equipment provisioning.
  • Conduct Regular Meetings: Host weekly meetings with Energy Officers, coordinating with the Regional Business Manager to address any unresolved issues. Foster a positive, motivating atmosphere by recognizing top performers and setting goals for continuous improvement.
  • Expand Retail Network: With the support of an Area Retail Coordinator, grow the retail network in the assigned territory. Follow established processes to ensure a robust, high-performing base of retailers and consistent growth in the area’s retail sales.

You Could Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Hold a Degree in a Business-Related Field (or equivalent) and bring at least 3 years of experience in B2C sales.
  • Have strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Are based in Cameroon, particularly familiar with Foumban and surrounding towns or villages.
  • Are bilingual in English and French, with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages.
  • Have extensive customer service experience, showcasing excellent skills in addressing client needs and enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate high levels of innovation with a cost-conscious mindset, always seeking creative, effective solutions.
  • Excel in planning and organization, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, optimize resources, and keep a focus on long-term goals.
  • Build strong relationships, managing both internal and external connections with professionalism and a collaborative spirit.
