Job Purpose
The Head of Enterprise Risk Management will oversee and manage the bank’s enterprise-wide risk management framework. This includes identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks to ensure the bank operates within its risk appetite while fully complying with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the bank’s enterprise risk management strategy and framework.
- Ensure risk management activities are aligned with the overall business strategy.
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential risks to the bank’s operations, financial health, and reputation.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments and develop risk profiles across different business activities.
- Design and execute risk mitigation plans and control measures.
- Continuously monitor and report on the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies.
- Update and maintain risk management policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Establish a robust system for tracking key risk indicators (KRIs).
- Prepare and present regular risk reports to executive management and relevant committees.
- Foster a culture of risk awareness and accountability throughout the organization.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and other stakeholders on risk-related issues.
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure they understand their risk profiles and facilitate effective communication on risk matters.
- Develop response plans for potential risk events and crises.
- Oversee the Expected Credit Loss (ECL) estimation process and provide training and technical support to business units.
- Manage risk measurement methodologies across the bank, including internal capital and liquidity adequacy assessments.
- Supervise stress testing and scenario planning, and ensure timely reporting to the board on risk measurement matters.
- Draft and update the bank’s risk appetite and tolerance limits, ensuring all risks are well monitored and reported.
Sustainability and ESRM Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the bank’s sustainability strategy in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) policies and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the preparation of the bank’s annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reports.
- Conduct green tagging assessments and maintain a database of stranded or potentially stranded assets.
- Lead the group’s climate change policies and ensure compliance with IFC, EPs, GRI & NSBP guidelines.
- Coordinate training and awareness programs on ESRM across the bank.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Timely submission of all regulatory reports.
- Timeliness and comprehensiveness of risk assessments.
- Effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies.
- Adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Accuracy and frequency of risk monitoring reports.
- Efficiency of crisis management and response plans.
- Effectiveness in training and development of risk management teams.
- Shareholder confidence in the bank’s risk management practices.
- Integration of risk considerations into strategic decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as natural or social sciences. A relevant second degree and professional certifications are an added advantage.
Work Experience
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in banking, with a focus on enterprise risk management and ESG financial reporting standards.
Key Competencies
- Extensive knowledge of enterprise risk management principles, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Proficient in financial analysis and risk modeling techniques.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and team management abilities.
- Ability to manage budgets prudently.
