Role Overview: Field Biologist Intern

As a Field Biologist Intern, you will play a critical role in bio-monitoring activities within the Jengi TRIDOM Program. You will work closely with the MINFOF team and local assistants to conduct ecological assessments, monitor wildlife populations, and collect critical data to support conservation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection: Conduct field-based bio-monitoring activities, including:

    1. Monitoring large and medium-sized mammals
    2. Observing wildlife behavior using camera traps
    3. Mapping elephant corridors
    4. Documenting human-wildlife conflicts
  • Reporting: Produce regular, well-structured field reports and contribute to the Jengi TRIDOM program database.

  • Implementation: Execute the ecological monitoring system in PNBB targeted clearings, adhering to scientific protocols.

  • Database Management: Assist in the organization and management of the bio-monitoring database and related field tools, ensuring proper storage and maintenance of field equipment.

Candidate Profile:

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s or engineering degree in Forestry, Wildlife Management, or related fields.
  • Experience: At least six (6) months of field experience in biomonitoring activities.
  • Passion for Conservation: Demonstrated interest in nature conservation.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Remote Work Adaptability: Comfortable working in remote forest environments with minimal supervision.
  • Physical Fitness: Strong physical condition and endurance.
  • Technical Skills:
    1. Proficiency with GPS, SIG software, Cybertracker/SMART, and camera trapping tools.
    2. Data Analysis Skills: Excel and other statistical software.
    3. Database Management: Strong computer literacy and ability to manage data systems.
  • Writing Skills: Ability to produce clear and concise reports.

Field Biologist Internship Opportunity

Position: Field Biologist Interns (2 Positions)

Overview

We are looking to recruit two Field Biologist Interns who will work closely with a PhD student leading this research project under the guidance of the Congo Basin Impact Monitoring Coordinator. The primary role of these interns will be to collect socio-economic data within the TRIDOM-Cameroon region using qualitative and quantitative research methods tailored to local contexts.

Key Responsibilities

The selected interns will be responsible for:

  • Collecting socio-economic data through surveys, interviews, and field observations.
  • Preparing and submitting completed questionnaires, detailed field reports, supervision forms, and qualitative notes.
  • Providing audio and video recordings as part of data collection.
  • Maintaining organized records of all research materials.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should meet the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s (BAC+3) or Master’s (BAC+5) degree in Social Sciences, Forestry, Agro-economics, or a related field.
  • Fluent in French and/or English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in conducting similar socio-economic studies (please provide references).
  • Familiarity with the TRIDOM-Cameroon area and experience working in local communities.
  • Strong skills in using socio-economic data collection tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of local languages (e.g., Bulu, Baka) is considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities

1. IT Delivery and Support

  • Ensure Optimal Use of Technology: Guide WWF-CCO staff in effectively utilizing Technology Platforms, Digital Innovation, and Data & AI Solutions to improve operations and maximize IT resources.
  • Provide Technical Support: Offer consistent IT support to both the Yaoundé Central Office and field offices, addressing day-to-day technical issues promptly.

2. IT Infrastructure Management

  • Improve IT Infrastructure: Implement enhancements to WWF-CCO’s IT infrastructure and services, ensuring efficient operations in both central and remote offices.
  • Enhance Digital Maturity: Support the Digital Transformation Plan for the Congo Basin, driving digital maturity within the organization.

3. Network and System Reliability

  • Maintain Network Services: Ensure local network services, digital solutions, and internet connectivity remain reliable to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in IT support and administration, preferably in a medium to large organization.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (LAN, Wi-Fi).
  • Experience in hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Fluent in English and French, with strong oral and written communication skills.
