Job offer: Communication Assistant – PLAN International

Job Opportunity: Communications Assistant – PLAN International Cameroon (NGO).

  • Location: Maroua, Cameroon
  • Organization: Plan International

About Plan International

Plan International is a global, independent humanitarian and development organization committed to promoting children’s rights and achieving gender equality for girls. We recognize the unique potential of every child and strive to eliminate the barriers they face due to poverty, violence, exclusion, and discrimination—challenges that disproportionately affect girls.

Through collaboration with children, youth, donors, and partners, we aim to build a more equitable world. Our work addresses the root causes of injustice and supports children from birth through adulthood, empowering them to navigate crises and thrive. We influence policies and practices at the local, national, and international levels, drawing on our extensive reach and experience.

With over 85 years of impactful work in more than 80 countries, we remain steadfast in our commitment: we won’t stop until every child is equal.

The Role: Communications Assistant

Plan International is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Communications Assistant to support our communications efforts in Maroua. In this role, your contributions will play a critical part in enhancing the visibility and reputation of our projects, particularly the Irish Aid-funded initiatives.

You will be responsible for developing and sharing compelling content that highlights the project’s outcomes and mission. This includes producing press releases, social media posts, newsletters, and reports. Your work will help strengthen relationships with local communities and key stakeholders, supporting the project’s overall effectiveness and outreach.

The Communications Assistant will serve as a key liaison between Plan International and external audiences, including local leaders, government bodies, media representatives, and partner organizations. You will manage media requests, organize interviews, and represent the organization at community events and stakeholder meetings.

This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, creativity, and a proactive approach to engaging with diverse audiences. It’s a unique opportunity to be the voice of a project that aims to create lasting, positive change for children and girls in Cameroon.

How to apply

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a qualified and motivated individual with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or with equivalent practical experience in journalism, media, public relations, or communications.

The successful candidate will bring a solid background in media engagement and content creation, along with strong written and spoken fluency in both English and French. A strong grasp of the communications landscape—including print, radio, television, and digital platforms—is essential. Skills in photography and/or videography, as well as a demonstrated awareness of gender and cultural sensitivities, are also important for this role.

As a Communications Assistant, you will contribute to increasing the visibility and impact of our projects by supporting strategic messaging and media engagement efforts in Maroua.
