Job offer: Driver – NRC

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is actively seeking a qualified driver to join its team in a critical support role.

Key Responsibilities

A. General Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tools, manuals, and guidelines.
  • Prepare reports and other documents as required for the role.
  • Contribute to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the function.
  • Align work tasks with the Work and Development Plan to meet organizational goals.

B. Specific Responsibilities

  • Safely drive NRC staff based on the predetermined schedule, adjusting for road conditions and prioritizing safety for both people and property.
  • Conduct routine vehicle checks, ensuring that all necessary documents and tools are present, including:
    1. Administrative documents (registration, insurance, technical inspection, etc.)
    2. NRC materials (Driving Manual, forms, etc.)
    3. Essential tools (spare tire, jack, ropes, etc.)
    4. Required equipment (first aid kit, flashlight, visibility gear, etc.)
  • Perform daily and weekly vehicle inspections and report any maintenance needs, abnormalities, or repair requirements.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness, ensuring that logos and license plates are clearly visible.
  • Regularly update the logbook to track mileage and usage.
  • Follow traffic rules and NRC guidelines, ensuring safety by adjusting speed based on road conditions and proximity to populated areas.
  • Ensure the vehicle is properly fueled and maintained for optimal performance.
  • When transporting goods, confirm that items are properly loaded and unloaded, ensure required documentation is in place, check the condition of goods, and return completed paperwork to the Logistics department.
  • Obtain liability waivers from non-NRC passengers before transportation.

Qualifications

A. Professional Skills

  • Proven driving experience in a humanitarian setting, particularly in support roles.
  • Experience working in complex and unstable environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to fulfill the key responsibilities of the role.

B. Context-Specific Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the social, cultural, economic, and legal landscape in the Central region.
  • Experience driving in difficult conditions (e.g., adverse weather, rough roads, security challenges).
  • Proficiency in French and/or English, both spoken and written.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Ability to manage unsafe environments.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Effective communication, demonstrating respect and clarity.
  • Strong planning abilities, with a focus on delivering results.

What We Offer

  • Contract: 12-month renewable contract, subject to funding availability.
  • Work Location: Yaoundé, with up to 75% field travel.
  • Salary/Benefits: Grade 2, Step 1 on NRC Cameroon’s salary scale.
  • Start Date: March 2025.
