Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead legal operations in Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, DRC, Congo, Chad, and the Central African Republic.
  • Act as a proactive business partner, identifying risks and offering practical, commercial solutions to prevent and address challenges.
  • Oversee litigations, contracts, and corporate secretarial work.
  • Support the recovery of outstanding debts owed to the company.
  • Manage corporate governance, statutory compliance, and licensing.
  • Mitigate legal risks and ensure full compliance with local and international laws.
  • Collaborate with and oversee external legal counsel, including budget management.
  • Assist the debt collection team with litigation processes for outstanding claims.
  • Advise internal stakeholders, including Human Resources, HSSE, Procurement, Compliance, Accounts Receivable, and Top Management.
  • Provide guidance on communications with government authorities (written and oral).

Who Are We Looking For?

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A Master’s degree in law from a recognized institution. Specialization in shipping law, logistics, or mergers and acquisitions is a plus.
  • A strong understanding of compliance laws and policies.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as in-house legal counsel at a multinational company or in private practice at a reputable law firm—or both.
  • Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken.
