Position Overview:

We are looking for an outstanding MEL Advisor with expertise in data analytics to become part of our global MEL team. This two-year fixed-term contract (renewable) will be instrumental in driving high-quality data collection and ensuring effective coordination and reporting.
As the technical lead for quantitative data, the successful candidate will focus on solutions-driven approaches, providing expert technical guidance to enhance data quality at both project-level and strategic levels. Your role will involve overseeing the baseline and endline assessments for various programs, supporting key stakeholders in their efforts to continuously improve program outcomes and ensure evidence-based learning throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities
The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Advisor will provide expert technical support across all levels, from individual projects to sector-wide initiatives, aligned with Sightsavers’ strategic goals focused on inclusion and systems strengthening. This role supports a global portfolio and requires occasional travel, up to eight weeks per year, both locally and internationally.
- Lead the design, strengthening, and implementation of quantitative monitoring and evaluation methodologies and tools, with a strong emphasis on inclusive data collection.
- Oversee the execution, analysis, and reporting of quantitative data findings, ensuring robust and accurate results.
- Provide continuous technical support to both internal teams and external partners across various programs.
- Foster adaptive learning throughout the entire project lifecycle, enabling the project to evolve based on data-driven insights.
- Support data flow mapping and assist with data privacy impact assessments, ensuring that data handling adheres to ethical and legal standards.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in MEL and/or a relevant tertiary degree in fields such as international development, social sciences, or public health.
- Strong technical expertise in monitoring, evaluation, and learning for flexible and adaptive programs.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing survey tools, using app-based data collection platforms (such as CommCare), and managing datasets of various sizes.
- Experience working across multiple countries and continents within an international development setting, navigating the complexities of diverse regions.
- Solid background in writing and producing analytical reports, with proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, etc.).
- A strong commitment to equality and opportunity for marginalized groups, with a focus on inclusive development practices.
- Proficiency in identifying and addressing capacity building needs, ensuring effective training delivery.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Right to work in either Kenya or Cameroon.
- Ability to join Sightsavers by the end of March 2025.
- Willingness to travel up to eight weeks annually to destinations within Africa and Asia.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., international development, public health, social sciences).
- Fluency in additional languages such as French, Portuguese, Bengali, or Kiswahili.
- Knowledge of current issues related to inclusive data, particularly the Washington Group questions on disability, and how to apply them effectively in data collection.

The recruitment process consists of two stages:
- Written Task: The first stage involves completing a written task that reflects the typical responsibilities of the role. This will assess your core skills and expertise.
- Remote Interview: Candidates who are shortlisted following the written task will be invited to a remote interview. These interviews are scheduled to take place between 17 February and 27 February 2025.
There may be a subsequent in-person interview at a relevant Sightsavers office, depending on the candidate’s location.
